The spring weather in Germany could have been more pleasant - April and May were unusually cool in 2021.

The beginning of June now promises sun and warmth.

Munich - April 2021 was the coldest April in Germany for at least 40 years, and the following month didn't really seem to get any better.

Choppy and cool weather - all records indicate that May has not been as cold as this year for a long time.

The combination of the two cold spring months is also particularly striking.

“It was significantly colder this year than in previous years.

We're talking about up to a degree of difference.

May was the coldest since 1991 ”, so qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung to

Merkur.de.

Weather in Germany - first hot summer days in early June after cold May and April

The summer in Germany may not be completely lost this year: If you only look at the average temperature from May 1st to May 23rd, it was even more “zapfiger” in the same period in 2019 than in 2021. 2019 followed suit the cooler days in May followed by the so-called “century summer” with a massive heat wave at the end of July.

And in fact it should be warm now at least at the beginning of June, in parts of Germany the thermometer reading could even climb to 30 degrees in summer thanks to the warm Sahara air.

Already for Sunday, May 30th,

weather.com

announces

up to 25 degrees and sunshine.

From the west, the warm air masses then push towards the east.

In the middle of the week, the maximum values on the Rhine are likely to crack the 30 degree mark, and corresponding temperatures can also be expected in Berlin around Friday - according to the optimistic forecast

.

The

wetter.de

portal

is a bit more cautious - the maximum temperatures are only targeted at the weekend, for example 28 degrees are forecast for Stuttgart, while in Munich it should be a solid 24 degrees.

After the first smaller heat wave, however, the so-called sheep's cold could cool down again.

This weather phenomenon is so called because sheep are usually sheared until mid-June - if it gets cold again, the animals can freeze.

Between June 10th and June 20th, another onset of cold air masses is expected in Germany, which will slow down the summer euphoria once again.

While the days will be shorter again from mid-June, the hope of a pleasant summer can still remain despite the sheep's cold: From the end of June, more weather patterns should appear for the rest of the summer.

Cool spring weather in Germany despite global warming?

At first glance, the fresh spring does not seem to match the ongoing global warming in the wake of climate change. In fact, the last cold months can neither be directly attributed to climate change nor cited as a counter-argument. If you look at the statistics of the last few decades, a fresh spring in the German climate series was actually already overdue. “It is actually completely normal that there will be a rainy May like this year,” said Dominik Jung, a graduate meteorologist.

While it stayed cool in this country, other areas broke a sweat: As

reported by

the

,

among other things

, parts of Russia experienced enormous heat records in mid-May.

In the city of Pechora on the edge of the Arctic, the state weather service measured 32.5 degrees Celsius on May 20th - the average temperature there in May from 1981 to 2010 was 4.2 degrees, the warmest value so far was in 1996 with 26.6 Degree noted.

The high temperatures in Russian areas ensure, among other things, that the permafrost there thaws faster - this has not only regional, but global consequences.
