Former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder (SPD) accuses the Green Party leadership of "sometimes unhelpful, sometimes even dangerous statements".

In a guest commentary for »t-online«, Schröder wrote that the co-chairman Robert Habeck had recently made “reckless and irresponsible comments about arms deliveries to Ukraine”.

And Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock has approved a corona bonus, "which should actually be due to those who have achieved extraordinary things in the pandemic, such as nurses or supermarket employees."

"Foolish" statements

Schröder alludes to the initially unreported additional income of the Green top candidate.

Last week it became known that Baerbock had only announced special payments from the party from 2018 to 2020 to the Bundestag administration in March of this year.

This involved a total amount of around 25,220 euros.

The Ukraine debate was about statements by Habeck that he wanted to supply the country with weapons if necessary.

After widespread criticism from within his own ranks, Habeck rowed back, saying that by weapons he meant night vision devices and reconnaissance devices, for example.

From Schröder's point of view, maneuvers like these are proof that Baerbock and Habeck lack skills.

From their “foolish” statements you can see that “experience is an advantage in order to avoid mistakes”.

The former chancellor warned against always worrying about climate protection.

For the federal election at the end of September, not only ecological, but also social and economic skills are important.

For most citizens, "the crucial question will be how we secure social security, prosperity and jobs in Germany."

End of the polls high

Also in the representative Sunday question of the opinion research institute Civey for the SPIEGEL, the short-term survey high of the Greens at the end of April has come to an end for the time being.

Looking at the survey results, the trend of the past few weeks continues: The Greens have to accept slight losses again and are currently behind the Union with 23 percent, which comes with slight increases to 27 percent.

According to Schröder, he believes that the race will ultimately be decided between the old popular parties, "neither the wandering left nor the far-right AfD will play a role in the formation of a coalition."

Schröder has praise - unsurprisingly - for Olaf Scholz.

The SPD candidate for chancellor could "score with expertise and reliability."

But also the Union chancellor candidate Armin Laschet comes off well in the comment of the former chancellor.

In an internal power struggle, he "prevailed very respectably against an overly researching Markus Söder and thus proved his claim to leadership."
