Is it possible to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases in our daily lives?
Yes. Some actions are as simple as setting the refrigerator to 5 degrees or moving the elevator down the stairs, although much more can be done.
Elena Vizcay, from the NGO Comunidad por El Clima, explains how to do it in this video, starting from three levels of difficulty.
First of all there are the small gestures that avoid few emissions but that do not entail practically no effort, among which are using the microwave instead of the oven, not setting the freezer below 18 below zero and keeping the refrigerator at 5 degrees. Other actions, which represent a greater reduction in our emissions, require minimal planning and a change in habits, such as consuming local and seasonal products or learning to use household appliances more efficiently. If we want to significantly reduce our carbon footprint, a cultural change is necessary, such as traveling by bike or train instead of by car or plane, which are much more polluting means.
Congress approved this month the first climate law in Spain to eradicate greenhouse gases in 2050. The first goal for 2030 is to reduce emissions by 23% compared to 1990. Citizens have an indispensable role to achieve this goal against global warming, that's why this guide aims to help citizens get involved.
