According to a media report, the coalition factions want to ban the flag of the radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas within a few weeks.

The SPD is currently examining the ban, said the legal policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group, Johannes Fechner, the editorial network Germany (RND).

"We are in talks with the CDU and a decision could follow as early as the beginning of June."

Specifically, it is about whether paragraph 86a of the Criminal Code can be expanded so that not only the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations is prohibited, but also terrorist organizations. "We are currently examining that, because even showing a flag of a terrorist organization endangers the security of the citizens," explained Fechner.

CDU leader Armin Laschet called for the ban last week. "We have banned the PKK flag because it is a terrorist organization," he said in a current hour of the state parliament about the latest anti-Semitic riots. "The Hamas flag has not been banned to this day." A change in the law is now necessary. “That is why this flag, which stands for terrorism, must also be banned. It must not be shown on German streets, ”demanded the CDU federal chairman. He accused Hamas of making many people who lived peacefully in the Gaza Strip "hostages for their terrorist activities." At the same time, Hamas is damaging the Palestinian Authority.

Following the recent escalation of violence in the Middle East, demonstrations in Germany led to anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic protests, including the green and white flag of radical Islamic Hamas, which attacked Israel with rockets.

It is classified as a terrorist organization by the EU, the USA and Israel.
