Will distance teaching in Bavaria's schools soon be history?

The trend in corona incidences gives hope, but what exactly is the plan after the holidays?

Munich - The Corona * incidences in Bavaria are falling.

If the trend continues, there could be nationwide schools without distance learning after the Whitsun holidays.

The development of the corona incidences * in the Free State currently points in the direction of face-to-face or alternating lessons in the last weeks of the school year, as can be seen from the latest figures from the Robert Koch Institute * from Friday morning.

Accordingly, for the third day in a row, no district and no urban district had values above 165 - the limit from which distance learning takes effect.

Corona in Bavaria: distance lessons over soon?

Trend gives rise to hope

With the exception of the nationwide Corona hotspot Memmingen (151.9), all districts already met the conditions of an incidence of at least five days below 165, which enables them to say goodbye to distance learning.

In Memmingen, if the current trend continues, this could be achieved on Sunday.

If there is no new hotspot by the end of the Whitsun holidays, the chapter on distance learning in Bavaria would be over for the time being.

Corona rules in Bavaria: This is the plan for schools and teaching

According to the Ministry of Culture, the current regulation for school operations in Bavaria provides for the following for the start after the Whitsun holidays.

  • Incidence under 50:

Face-to-face teaching without gaps is allowed

  • Incidence between 50 and 165:

alternating lessons or face-to-face lessons with a minimum interval apply

  • Incidence over 165:

There are distance classes for all classes except grade four and final classes, which have alternating classes or face-to-face classes with a minimum distance.

Students in grade five and up must wear a medical face mask on the school premises.

Corona in Bavaria: face-to-face classes will soon predominate again

Two weeks later, from June 21st, the limit for face-to-face teaching without a minimum interval is to be raised to 100. At the latest, this type of school should dominate, provided the current trend in corona incidences does not fundamentally change. On Friday, 87 of the 96 districts and independent cities in Bavaria met the requirement five days under 100.

And right after the Whitsun holidays, there could be face-to-face classes in many places without a minimum interval.

On Friday, 42 districts were already able to show the five days in a row below 50, which are then still valid as a border.

27 others were under 50 for a shorter time and several others were only just over 50. By the end of the Whitsun holidays, many of them could still reach the five days in a row below the border.

Once this has been achieved, face-to-face lessons are retained until the city or district does not break for three days in a row over 50 as the limit.
