Hamburg - In the Hamburg district of Winterhude, a man was shot by the police on Friday.

He was armed with a knife and had previously stopped cars, damaged them and threatened the occupants, says a police spokeswoman.

On site, the officers tried to stop the man first with pepper spray.

That failed.

Then, by chance, SEK officials arrived who were unsuccessful even with a taser.

Because neither had any effect and the attacker approached the emergency services with knife in hand, a police officer ultimately shot the man.

The attacker was seriously injured.

An emergency doctor initiated resuscitation measures but was unable to save the man's life.

He died on the scene.

The police also said that witnesses reported shouts of Allahu Akbar. Therefore, a religious motivation for his violent behavior is not excluded. State security and the State Criminal Police Office are now included in the investigation. The area at Hebebrandstrasse at the corner of Sengelmannstrasse was completely cordoned off. The criminal police and forensics are active.

Last Friday, the police in Munich were out with a large contingent. A passer-by had reported a shot in the Isarvorstadt. There the events turned out to be more harmless. In an argument between two acquainted men, a blank gun had come loose. They fled but were caught by the numerous officers. One of the men was charged with violating the gun law.
