A green field surrounds the concrete floor, and the farmland is trapped in a barbed wire fence. This is the first piece of reclaimed land arranged by the government.

The northeast of the New Territories is developing in full swing, and the farmland that Adai has cultivated in Ma Shi Po Village for about 40 years has also been harvested.

From the beginning, Adai arranged for re-cultivation here and became the first batch of farmers to be resettled.

Three months ago, the reclaimed land in front of me was still a patch of yellow mud and full of rocks.

Adai, who was in his seventies, turned a piece of wasteland into a field with his hands every day, building mud and rocks, and working hard to fertilize.

However, the area near the reclaimed land is deserted and remote, and there are no sales points. After hard work, I can only rely on the hikers every weekend to help make up for the business.

The reclaimed land was originally wasteland, which scared the farmers.

A piece of re-cultivated land next to Adai farmland, where the yellow mud is cracked and no grass grows.

From the good old days in Ma Shi Po to the various difficulties after the land resumption, Arzai said frankly: "I will be a wasteland cow!"

Adai has been farming for about 40 years, but the farmland has been taken away due to the development of the northeast of the New Territories, and was later arranged to be replanted in Huashan, Fanling.

Located in Huashan, Fanling, the farmland is trapped in barbed wire and divided into four farmland for lease, which is very different from the endless farmland in Ma Shi Po.

Among the four farmlands, there are fields that are full of vitality. Only one farmer has not formally entered the site because it has not signed a contract. It can be seen that the whole land is loess with cracks everywhere.

It turned out that the green space in front of Adai was the same in the past. If it is to become the current pastoral, the blood and sweat in it will be difficult for outsiders to understand.

The entire farmland was dug out by Adai alone with a hoe, and he had never used a machine.

The stones in the mud mud should be dug out before farming to avoid hindering the growth of plants.

The restored farmland is full of stones

"When the stones are diamonds, you have the plan to do it." After receiving the government's assignment of re-arable land in February, Adai, who was in his seventies, found that there were many stones buried in the mud, and he often squatted since the beginning. It took three months to pick up stones on the ground before it became the green field in front of me. However, the stones are big and thin, and some are covered with asphalt. There are still huge boulders shoveled out of the farmland. Going (departing) is not over yet."

I used my ten fingers to dig out the stone...every line of ground, every inch of the ground, I tied my ten fingers to make it.

It was only after Adai rented the land to rehabilitate it, that the mud buries buried large and small stones and even shoveled out huge boulders.

However, after the stones are handled, growing crops is another problem.

Adai repeatedly dropped the fertilizer four to five times before the short melon that appeared when he appeared. "Don't worry about Ma Shipu, the last two drops (fertilizer) have been messed up." In the chestnut rice field, both sides of the field have grown. Green, but yellow in the middle, "It's because of the soil, so I can make enough fertilizer and leave it out."

Adai was assigned to rehabilitate land in February, but the "shuikou" was not completed until the end of April, which caused flooding when it rained.

In the old days, there was a Tin Kwong Market in Ma Shi Po, which could be sold in the market every morning after harvesting.

However, Huashan Road is far away and inaccessible. He insists on riding his bike for 20 minutes every day to get to the fields. He only earns a few days of business. He can only rely on the hikers every weekend. However, he said that he is very satisfied. thirsty."

Farmers stay away from reclaimed land

Seeing the condition of the farmland has deterred farmers who originally wanted to re-cultivation.

Farmer Mr. Zhao described weeds as the most "crude" plants, but the farmland in the middle where no farmer has entered is still a piece of yellow mud. For many months, it has been strangely absent from the grass. "It's not normal. Drizzle...it’s been completely absent for a few months, so your words are suitable for planting?” He also pointed out that he had visited the current site a year ago, and a lot of construction waste was placed at that time. It is estimated that the government has not officially replaced the soil. Only cover with new mud.

Another farmer, Mr. Xie, also pointed out that the situation of Huashan's re-cultivation of land is horrible, and the leveled farmland is "not full of grass," and there is no water and electricity facilities. Frankly speaking, it is absurd, so he asked to meet with the authorities to improve the situation.

Among the re-cultivated land in Huashan, Fanling, there was no farmer entering the site. The soil on the land was cracked and no weeds could grow.

Adai said that the reclaimed land he leased was the same at the beginning.

Development Bureau: will add fertilizer and remove stones

When responding to enquiries, the Development Bureau pointed out that the site selection of farmland under the re-cultivation plan has been assessed by relevant professional departments and determined that it is suitable for agricultural purposes.

In response to the suggestions of the tenant farmers, the Civil Engineering and Development Department added fertilizers such as bone meal and peanut bran to the soil of the re-cultivated farmland, removed a small amount of stones and debris on the farmland, and added "water drains" to the farmland to enhance drainage.

The bureau also said that it takes time for farmers to apply for permanent water and electricity facilities. The contractor of the Civil Engineering and Development Department has arranged temporary generators and government water supply for use other than irrigation.
