Some people from Schleissheim are protesting against this.

Now the town hall administration wants to examine the plan after all.

Oberschleißheim

- They are concerned with 27 trees.

Karin Schuster and Gabriele Kämpf try to protect them.

The local politician, Schuster, advocates this in parliament in the district council.

The activist, Kämpf, speaks about it with people on the street and seeks contact with journalists.

The declared goal of the women: to prevent tree felling.

In Veterinärstraße, an avenue, 27 trees are in danger. The trees are up to 27 meters high, including pointed maples and linden trees. Eleven trees have to be felled, 16 the community wants to move. The narrow street is important for the future additional traffic to the veterinary faculty of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU). According to the LMU, the new campus is to be built there by 2026. The area is designed for over 2000 students, around 200 lecturers and 555 parking spaces, according to the municipality. MVG buses are supposed to bring some of the people to the university. But they need space. There is currently no one on Veterinärstraße, buses cannot meet there. Therefore, the street should be wider, from 4.80 meters to 6.50 meters. That was decided by the building committee at the March meeting.

"Some trees are in bad shape anyway."

The draft resolution for the necessary change to the development plan informed the members in detail about the renovation.

But what it doesn't say: 27 trees on the southern side of the road are killed.

The necessary felling for some of the trees is only apparent in the design plan.

The building yard and a gardener have inspected the trees, says mayor's advisor Doris Rohe: "Some trees are in bad condition anyway." They would have to be felled in the next ten years anyway.

All the trees that were sawn off would be replanted.

District councilor Karin Schuster (ÖDP) is still angry about the tree felling: "The citizen was presented with a fait accompli.

The Veterinärstraße has so far been more of a secret route.

The "little bit of bus traffic" is in no relation to the decided tree felling.

What particularly annoys Karin Schuster and Gabriele Kämpf is that the local council violates its own principles.

After a heated discussion, the committee had already passed a tree protection ordinance in February.

"Any felling or damage contradicts the new tree protection ordinance," says Kämpf.

“Oberschleißheim is not exactly famous for its local council,” Schuster also criticizes.

The women propose alternatives to deforestation on Veterinärstraße: a differently timed timetable or a set of traffic lights. So the buses shouldn't meet in the narrow street. “It must also be questioned whether the buses inevitably have to drive on Veterinärstraße,” says Kämpf. In fact, the town hall administration is currently examining alternatives - against the committee's decision.

In addition to the options mentioned, the town hall is checking a waiting bay in combination with a bus stop, says Doris Rohe.

“The result is still open,” she says.

Rohe emphasizes that she understands the sensitivities of citizens.

“This avenue plays an important role for the place.” Schuster and Kämpf are fighting over the preservation of the trees.

Karin Schuster calls for a uniform tree protection ordinance for the entire district.

She wants to fight for this in the district council.
