A mother in the 38th week of her pregnancy and a newborn died at Kaplan Hospital after emergency surgery

A 38-year-old midwife from Rehovot died last night (Saturday) at Kaplan Medical Center after undergoing a caesarean section, during which her newborn also died.
The mother, who was in the 38th week of her pregnancy, arrived at the hospital in a critical condition while undergoing resuscitation efforts and was rushed to the hospital's trauma room.
The circumstances of the case have not yet been clarified.
Upon her arrival at the trauma room, she underwent emergency caesarean section, when shortly afterwards, and despite the efforts of the medical staff, the newborn died.
During the night the death of the mother was determined.
Professor Alon Ben-Arieh, director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Division at Kaplan Medical Center, said that "the woman was led by MDA when she was already in a critical condition and during resuscitation efforts.
"Unfortunately, despite attempts to stabilize her condition and advanced resuscitation efforts, she died during the night."

"The cause of death of the mother and the newborn is not known with certainty," said Prof. Ben-Arieh.
"However, we estimate that this is amniotic fluid embolism, which can rarely occur during pregnancy. The death of a mother and newborn as a result of amniotic fluid embolism is a rare and unusual case," he said.
The deceased mother signed an Eddie card.
Her family has agreed to a tissue donation, which will be made at the hospital in the next day.
