British Prime Minister Boris Johnson married his girlfriend Carrie Symonds, 33, on Saturday, in a ceremony that was kept secret, in the Catholic Cathedral of Westminster, in front of 30 guests and with classical music in the background.

The wedding took place on Saturday morning and is the first time in 199 years that a premier has been married in the kingdom in office.

The marriage between Johnson and the mother of Wilfred, their sixth child, came after an exercise in distraction.

The couple this week sent their friends "a save the date" for the wedding, which was to be held on July 30 next year.

The newspaper

The Sun

got the scoop

.

Nobody in Britain had the slightest idea, not even the ministers.

Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds were the first single couple to move to Downing St. Photo EFE

According to their friends, the couple was organizing the wedding for six months.

The premier (56) accepted the lines that he imposed before the Covid and

there were only 30 guests

.

The pandemic is likely to postpone the honeymoon.

She came to church in a long dress but without a veil.

Stanley Johnson, the prime minister's father, was photographed leaving Downing St. after the ceremony with Julie, his daughter.

The children were not seen, nor were their brothers Joe and Rachel.

Guests could be heard singing.

It was Father Daniel Humphrey who held the ceremony and witnessed the kiss of the bride and groom.

He had previously baptized Wilfred and gave the pre-marriage course to the newlyweds.

The guests, an unknown

The ceremony was held at two in the afternoon and it is unknown until now who their guests were.

The photographers saw musicians and guests leave from Downing St. but could not recognize anyone.

Carrie is a practicing Catholic.

Boris has a more colorful history in religious terms.

His great-grandfather was a Muslim Turk, he changed his name when he came to the kingdom.

Boris's aristocratic mother was Catholic but he left Catholicism and joined the Anglican Church when he was sent to Eton College.

For that reason, the Catholic Church does not consider Boris as previously married in its church.

Carrie was educated at Godolphin School, her father is one of the founders of

newspaper

and was the press officer for the Labor Party in 2009. In addition, she accompanied Boris in the Brexit campaign.

The two had a volatile relationship, which included a brutal fight in their south London apartment, recorded by their neighbors and unusually recounted in

The Guardian

newspaper

.

Surprise among politicians

The news surprised all politicians.

Labor opponent Keir Starmer graciously greeted his opponent.

"

Congratulations to Boris and Carrie. Regardless of our political differences, I wish you a happy life together," he wrote.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the Speaker of the House of Commons, was another surprised.

"What pleasant news! I wish the prime minister and Carrie the best and hope he has time for a honeymoon!" He said.

The marriage is the best news for Boris, after a week where he endured the

barrage of accusations

from Dominic Cummings, his former adviser, who considered that "he is not prepared to be prime minister."

This is the third marriage for Boris, who first married aristocrat Allegra Mostyn Owen, which was annulled in 1993. He then married his childhood friend, lawyer Marina Wheller, from whom he separated in 2018. It was after that the woman, who had been diagnosed with cancer, found out about his relationship with Carrie.

Boris had to take a week off in the middle of Covid to finalize his biography of Shakespeare and be able to finish paying for Marina's divorce.

The prime minister has at least four children with her.

Lara Letticce (25), Cassia Peaches (22), and two boys, Arthur and Theodore Apolle, all names chosen for their love of Greece and the classics.

He also had a fifth child with Stephanie Macintiyre, an art consultant, plus the little baby with Carrie, born in April of last year.

No one knows whether or not the boys were present at the ceremony.

The beginning of the relationship with Carrie left deep family wounds.

The wedding comes before the G7 summit of world leaders in Cornwall.

Carrie has already contacted their wives to organize the show.

It will be her first official step as First Lady, although in Britain the status is not established.
