The presidential candidate for the opposition Syrian Democratic Front, Mahmoud Marei, announced that the stage of competition had ended with the end of the Syrian presidential elections, and that the Syrian people had spoken and elected a president for their country, congratulating in their name, on behalf of the internal and external national opposition, and on behalf of the Syrian Democratic Front, Dr. Bashar al-Assad, on winning the post of President of the Republic.
In a press conference held this evening in Damascus, Mari said: I accept the results of the elections, whatever they are, and I congratulate President al-Assad for his election as president for all Syrians. We hope that together we will achieve the liberation of Syria from occupations and terrorism and that a united one will return and work together to hold a national Syrian-Syrian dialogue conference in Damascus in the presence of the state. Mari indicated that he continues to work with the Syrian state for the return of the displaced Syrians to their homeland and to secure a life and a decent return for them to contribute to the reconstruction, and also work to lift the unilateral coercive Western measures imposed on the Syrian people and affected the country's economy, stressing that we will work for Syria as a citizen state. Mari added: We are for the separation of powers, participation, pluralism, and activation of political life, and we say, as a result, we are opposition and loyalty to put our hand in the hands of the state in order to work and build to be Syria for all Syrians regardless of ethnic and religious affiliations.
In response to Sana’s question about the position of the internal opposition towards the external opposition, Mari stressed that the opposition linked to foreign agendas and which works in the interest of regional and international intelligence and supports the occupation and visited the Zionist enemy is not an opposition nor is it trusted on the future of Syria and that reliance is only on the will of the Syrian people who said after ten years of war Yes to rebuilding and to stand up to the occupations.
Mari pointed out that for the first time in Syria’s history, an opposition and a political prisoner are running for the presidential elections, and the Syrian parliament gives him the support of 35 deputies, and for the first time the Syrian state allows this candidate to raise banners, pictures and advertisements, and speaks to the media with full transparency, pointing out that this experience is a new mentality in Syria for us. To adhere to it and work to activate political life through participation, so that we are all at the service of the Syrian state.
On the high level of public support that Dr. Bashar Al-Assad garnered in the elections, Mari said that this public support is a natural thing for a president who has been steadfast and was keen on the unity of Syria, and this is an important point in his personality, as he withstood ten years in the face of occupations and terrorism and persevered when the terrorist groups surrounded Damascus and did not leave and fought Terrorism has managed to liberate part of the Syrian soil, and we are with him in the national opposition in order to liberate the rest of the parts.
Mari pointed out that there is a project for the internal opposition in cooperation with the Syrian state to prepare for a general Syrian-Syrian national conference in order to reach a political solution that applies the Syrian solution by Syrian will and by Syrian hands.
