The Italian court ruled tonight (Sunday) that the three employees of the company that operates the cable car should be released after they were arrested on Wednesday, on suspicion of involvement in an accident that occurred last week in which 14 people were killed, including the Israeli Biran family. According to the Italian newspaper La Stampa, the court ruled that the three would be released, with one of them released under house arrest. The court further ruled that the suspects should be released, since they have nowhere to run, and there is no fear that they will distort evidence. Prosecutors in the trial have opened an investigation against the three on suspicion of negligent homicide.

According to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, at the end of the investigation of the company's employees, Luigi Naroni, the company's director, chief engineer and another senior member of the company, were arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide and other offenses. According to authorities, there are "serious indications of their guilt."

Prosecutor Olympia Bossi, who is in charge of the affair, said that the investigation raised suspicions that the safety brake system installed in the cable car was neutralized, in order to avoid delays in its operation. She said investigators found that the safety braking system was "illegally handled" to prevent delays in the cable car service and that the three were aware that the cable car had been operating this way since April 26, when the service returned from a long shutdown due to the corona. The plaintiff said that "this means that when the cable was torn the emergency system could not be activated".

The investigation revealed that on Saturday afternoon last week, the cable car was stopped and human intervention was needed to reactivate it, but it has not yet been clarified whether this has anything to do with the accident. However, she added that at this stage no human error can also be ruled out during maintenance work carried out a few days before the accident. Investigators have already collected the videos of the security cameras installed at the cable car site. She said the trolley could be seen in them "shaking and then starting to roll backwards at a speed of 100 km / h".

On Sunday last week there was a cable car accident in northern Italy, near Lake Maggiore. Local emergency services said the accident occurred while traveling from the resort town of Stresa in Piedmont province to Mount Matrona. Fourteen people were killed in the accident, including five Israelis from the same family: Amit Biran, 30, and his wife, Tal Biran, 27, and their two-year-old son, Tom Biran. In addition, Tal's grandparents, 82-year-old Yitzhak Cohen and his 72-year-old wife Barbara Cohen, who came to visit the couple and their children living in the north of the country, were also killed.

The Biran couple's son, 5-year-old Eitan Biran, the only one who survived the disaster, woke up on Tuesday in his bed at the Regina Margarita Children's Hospital in Turin, where he has been hospitalized since the incident. His aunt Aya, a physician by profession and living in Italy for many years, was by his side all the time. When he woke up he asked her where his parents were.

The hospital said that Eitan's condition remained difficult but stable, and that he was constantly accompanied by his aunt in the intensive care unit.

They noted that if his condition continued to improve, they would consider transferring him from the intensive care unit to another ward.

In addition to his aunt, the psychologist Marina Bertolotti is also by his bedside.

Since it was decided to wake Ethan from a coma, Bertolotti has been working with her staff to prevent him from being traumatized upon awakening.

Earlier in the day, Italian media reported that the director of the cable car in the Alps in Italy had pleaded guilty.

According to La Stampa newspaper, director Gabriella Tadini, who took office about 40 years ago, accepted the responsibility while in a high-security detention cell.

During his interrogation he admitted that there was a fuel leak in the brake system, so it was disconnected from the cable car, so he could continue driving.

When the cable of the cable car was torn, there were no systems that stopped it.

"I am guilty. I pray and deal with myself, I will do my account before God. I have a huge weight on my conscience," Tadini said.

"I never imagined the cable could break. The chances of an accident were one in a million."
