This is a first for thirteen years: Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi visited Cairo on Sunday for discussions on the truce established on May 21 through Egyptian mediation, after a new war between Israel and Palestinian Hamas.

An Israeli and a Palestinian debate
This visit aims, among other things, to "
deepen the mechanisms around an agreement
" on the Gaza Strip and to discuss the questions of the reconstruction of the Palestinian enclave, in particular "
the commitment of Israel to bring back its soldiers and civilians.
From the Gaza Strip, Gabi Ashkenazi posted on Twitter as she stepped off the plane.
He was referring to the bodies of two soldiers killed in action in 2014 and the two civilians of Israeli nationality who entered the Palestinian enclave of their own accord and have been detained since.
Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh is also expected in Cairo, according to an Egyptian security source, who did not provide further details.
