A legendary restaurant in Munich has to close at the end of the year.

However, the end of the top address for gourmets has nothing to do with the Corona crisis.

Munich - has always been one of the top addresses for gourmets in Munich *: The Bogenhauser Hof is known for its fine cuisine and a popular meeting place for many celebrities and politicians.

Since 2001, landlord Gerhard Gleinser has been running the restaurant together with his wife Susanne.

The chef has been working there for a total of 31 years.

But soon his kitchen will remain permanently cold: “We will close at the end of the year,” confirms the 57-year-old.

Bogenhauser Hof in Munich has to close: "Corona did not play a role"

Why? "Corona * played no role in the closure." Rather, the lease would expire. "It will not be extended." Gleinser does not want to comment on the reasons. “It's a shame, of course, but we can't change it,” he says. The landlord likes to look back on the past decades: “We have always enjoyed our work,” he says. “We always wanted to do it.” What he will do in the future, he still keeps a low profile. The employees also have to look for new jobs.

The listed building will be renovated after the restaurant is closed.

The scope of the work has not yet been determined, according to a spokesman for the house owner, the Schörghuber Group.

One thing is clear: after the renovation, a restaurant will come back to the Bogenhauser Hof.

"The reopening will take place in 2022," reports the spokesman.

The exact period depends on which specific measures are necessary, "and not least on the availability of the executing companies and the building materials".

More details on the type of future inn and possible hosts cannot yet be said.

That is all "in flux".

Lease contract not extended: Bogenhauser Hof in Munich has to close

Meanwhile, Gerhard Gleinser wants to make the most of the remaining time.

So far, he has waited before opening the outdoor catering in the Bogenhauser Hof.

“It's useless in the inconsistent weather,” he explains.

Precisely because he offers upscale cuisine in his restaurant, it is hardly feasible to have to keep unlocking and locking.

But the landlord promises: “We'll open again as soon as the weather is better.” Like so many other restaurateurs, he hopes to be able to start indoor catering soon - for his final spurt in the Bogenhauser Hof.

Bogenhauser Hof in Munich: an inn with a long tradition

The Bogenhauser Hof has a long restaurant tradition: The building, built in 1825, was already licensed as a tavern in 1854.

The inn not only had the right to serve, host and host guests, but was also allowed to host weddings, baptisms and other celebrations.

In 1950 the Pschorr brewery bought the property.

Back then there was a regular “Munich Zamperlmarkt” there.

Susanne and Gerhard Gleinser have been running the restaurant since 2001.

Politicians like Franz Josef Strauss and Edmund Stoiber were just as happy to be guests as, for example, society lady Ulrike Huebner and many well-known athletes.
