In May 1990, Riegler began to work in the local council and for the community of Zolling. In his first term of office, Riegler acts as a deputy association councilor in the school association, as an association councilor of VG Zolling and as a member of the audit committee. After he was re-elected to the local council for the CSU in 1996, Riegler takes on the post of 2nd mayor, is also active as an association councilor (or deputy) in VG Zolling, in the school association and in the Baumgarten and Paunzhausen water associations, and also sits on the building committee .
