At about 3 pm today (30th), a 49-year-old man surnamed Chen was playing football on a football field in Happy Valley Recreation Ground (racecourse). About half an hour later, he sat down to rest and chat with friends. He suspected that he was suffering from heatstroke. When he fainted, his friend called the police.
The ambulance arrived at the scene, and the man was unconscious and was rushed to Ruttonjee Hospital for treatment.
The police are investigating the incident and the cause of death has yet to be confirmed by autopsy.
According to the Observatory's records, Happy Valley recorded more than 32 degrees between 2 pm and 3 pm, and the temperature dropped slightly to about 31.5 degrees after 3 pm.
Accident and emergency department specialist Peng Jimao said that heatstroke refers to the body temperature exceeding 40.5 degrees and confusion.
Generally speaking, the normal temperature of the human body's surface skin is about 32 degrees. In very hot weather, such as when the temperature is over 33 degrees, there is no wind and damp weather, plus exercise, the human body temperature can rise to more than 40 degrees. The internal organs are like being boiled in hot water, which will cause high fever, lack of water, electrolyte imbalance, damage to various functions, etc., which are life-threatening at any time.
When exercising outdoors in hot weather, you should wear light-colored clothing, regularly replenish water and electrolytes, and take a break every half an hour.
When you feel unwell, such as fast heartbeat, palpitations, etc., you should leave the scene immediately.
If someone is found to have heatstroke symptoms, he should be moved to a cool place immediately, and he should be wiped with a damp cloth to cool him down. At the same time, call 999 to call the police for help.
Peng Jimao also reminded that athletes should pay attention to whether they have chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, etc., and they should also pay attention to whether they have had colds or colds, whether they have taken any drugs or drinking alcohol recently, because their resistance is weak and may not be able to withstand high temperatures. Easy to heatstroke.
