The Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, gave a conference at the Ezeiza airport after her trip to Mexico and Cuba, in which she detailed the progress of the negotiations to obtain vaccines against the coronavirus and specified the next arrivals, among which stand out the

2.1 million doses of AstraZeneca

to arrive on Monday morning.

Accompanied by the presidential adviser Cecilia Nicolini, Vizzotti recalled that

15,483,400 doses

have already arrived in the country

and that in the first days of June that figure will increase.

AstraZeneca

In principle, the 2,148,600 doses that will land on Monday will constitute the largest departure that arrives in a single flight so far and, in this way, Argentina will exceed the 17.5 million doses received.

Carla Vizzotti returned to Argentina this Sunday after her trip to Mexico and Cuba and provided details about the vaccination plan.

These are the doses whose active component was prepared in the Garín laboratory, in the province of Buenos Aires, then packaged in Mexico and finished conditioning in the United States.

The contract had severe delays - between March and April 6 million are expected and none arrived - and forced to rethink the schedule.

"In addition, we have pending the delivery of the May quota of

900 thousand doses that these days will tell us

(when it arrives)," said Vizzotti, who recalled that as part of this contract Argentina already received 843 thousand immunizations last week.

"With this volume

, the schedules of the people that started in February

and are completing the 90-day interval will be completed," he added.

Quota for June this contract, the official said that arrive 3.5 million doses, which would

start arriving

"from June 14"

.

This Monday another 2.1 million AstraZeneca vaccines will arrive in Argentina.

"We hope that during June we will not only complete the doses in May, but that we can also receive this quota," he said.

Sputnik V

The Gamaleya Institute vaccine is Argentina's big bet in this first semester, with almost 8 million doses received.

Without giving details, Vizzotti said that

"this week" they

will receive

a new batch

and said that he is working so that

more doses of component two

arrive

, one of the pending accounts in the last shipments.

The Government expects that a larger quantity of doses of the second component will arrive in the next shipments of Sputnik V.

The Russian vaccine is the only one that has two different formulations between the first and the second application, and so far 6,975,585 of component 1 and 1,140,160 of component 2 have arrived.

Nicolini agreed: "Vaccines from component one will continue to arrive, but we are making every effort to get them from component two as well."

In addition, the presidential advisor remarked: "We continue working, as announced by the President, on a regularization of the arrival of these vaccines, approximately between 800 thousand and one million per week."

Sinopharm

As Clarín had anticipated last week, the Government reached an agreement to buy another six million vaccines from China.

The minister confirmed that they are advancing in the negotiations so that

"two million Sinopharm will arrive in June and another four in July

"

The first shipments of Sinopharm were used to complete the immunization schedule of two million people with the two doses.

It is worth remembering that Argentina has already received four million applications from Sinopharm.

With them, it was decided to inoculate two million people with two doses, since until last week the arrival of more of these vaccines was not guaranteed.

CanSino

The government closed an agreement to purchase the single-dose vaccine from the Chinese laboratory CanSino.

The Chief of Cabinet, Santiago Cafiero, told it on Wednesday and Vizzotti ratified it.

"We are making progress with all the regulatory information and the signing of the contract," he said.

The ANMAT told this newspaper that there is still no data to disseminate on the process of its approval in the country.

For now, each of these vaccines has an estimated price of US $ 14, at market value.

Cuba's vaccines

During her trip to the island, the Minister of Health advanced with the negotiations to acquire the vaccines that are being produced there.

"They have five candidate vaccines, of which

three are advanced

and they estimate that this week or the next they will have the first cutoff to do the interim analysis of the phase 3 clinical trials."

The minister was referring to the

Abdala

vaccine

and the

Sovereign

and

Sovereign Plus

.

"We have a confidentiality agreement," he added.

Soberana 02 is the name of one of the five vaccines developed by scientists in Cuba that entered the final phase of testing this month.

Injectable, two application doses are foreseen, with intervals of two weeks between each one, in addition to a possible reinforcement with the Plus.

And it brings a novelty in the matter: you will not need freezers for maintenance.

The other advanced vaccine is Abdala, which is being tested in its Phase III in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba.

It could also achieve final results in June.

Donations from Mexico and the US

For his part, Nicolini referred to the possibility that North American countries make a vaccine donation to Argentina, given the advance of the second wave and the complex health situation.

"Based on the conversations that both leaders (Alberto Fernández and López Obrador) had, this week we are going to have an advance on vaccines that would correspond to Mexico to help Argentina in this situation of the pandemic. Mexico initially it would be sending more than 800 thousand doses, "he reported.

Asked about the donations that the Government of Joe Biden would make, she stated: "When the United States announced the possibility of donating vaccines, initially

60 million from AstraZeneca and 20 million from other brands

, now they are moving forward with the approval to deliver those vaccines. Argentina is a candidate to receive these vaccines and we are in almost daily conversations with Ambassador (Jorge) Argüello. June would be the month to make this vaccine exchange effective. "
