The Forestry and Fire Monitoring Platform of the Public Authority for Remote Sensing warned of the possibility of a severe spread of fires next Tuesday in forest areas, especially in the forests of the eastern slope of the coastal mountain range.
Rosa Karmouqa, head of the platform at the authority, explained in a statement to the representative of SANA that the platform published today an update of its product showing the map of the intensity of the fire spread index for the first of June, which shows a general increase in its indicators in forest areas.
The platform presents the producers of maps and indicators of the risk of fire spread according to Qaramuka, who contribute to providing data to forestry and forestry departments and thus help them prioritize preparation and intervention in sites with the highest risk of fires, explaining that the maps placed periodically do not necessarily mean the outbreak of a fire in them, but rather indicate the existence of appropriate conditions for the possibility of its outbreak Hence, the necessary preparations must be made.
Garmouqa indicated that the indicator of the spread of fire in its early stages is a global numerical classification of the expected severity of the spread of the fire that combines the effect of the wind coefficient and the moisture coefficient of the flammable substance on the intensity of the spread of the fire. It is issued separately for some days or periods when its levels appear to rise. The aim is to increase the warning and take caution. Especially that a good percentage of forest fires start from farms and nearby fields as a result of burning farm residues, in addition to the specificity of the spatial distribution of our forests and their complex overlap with agricultural areas.
Karmouka pointed out that the average level of the indicator indicates that the fire can be easily extinguished using hand tools, and the level of the indicator is high. Most fires can be successfully controlled using pumps and water hoses, and a very high indicator level indicates that it will be difficult to control some fires.
And the General Directorate of Meteorology expected, in its evening bulletin, that the weather tomorrow will be relatively hot, clear in general, and misty and dusty in the eastern regions, the island and the Badia.
And meteorologist Kenaz Kiwan indicated that the temperature will rise tomorrow by six degrees compared to today's temperatures, especially in the areas of the eastern foot of the coastal mountain chain, and the winds will be west to moderate south, active in the afternoon with gusts exceeding 65 km per hour in the southern and Badia regions.
