"I will meet President Putin in Geneva in two weeks, and I will make it clear that we will not watch while they violate these rights," said US President Joe Biden on Sunday in a speech on the upcoming Memorial Day of the Americans .
At the first summit of the two heads of government on June 16, Biden will urge his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to respect human rights, he announced.
He said something similar to the Chinese head of state Xi Jinping during a long phone call in February, said Biden.
“America is unique.
It's an idea - for us the fact that all men and women are born the same is a matter of course. "

According to Biden's spokeswoman Jen Psaki, Biden intends to "discuss the full range of urgent issues with Putin in Geneva as we try to restore predictability and stability to US-Russian relations."
When the date was announced, the Kremlin had announced that Biden and Putin would be discussing “strategic stability”, the resolution of “regional conflicts” and the fight against the corona pandemic in Switzerland.
Relations between Washington and Moscow are currently under heavy strain.
The US accuses Russia of interfering in several US elections and a hacker attack on the software company SolarWinds.
Washington recently also sharply criticized Russia's role in the Ukraine conflict and Putin's actions against the imprisoned opposition politician Alexei Navalny.
