What a festival that would have been: The “Mountain Costume Conservation Association D'Werdenfelser Huglfing” is 100 years old.
And without a pandemic, there would probably be a pounding week of festivities with everything that belongs to Bavarian customs, if you remember the celebrations for the 70th and 80th birthday of Trachtler.

Huglfing - “Faithful to the guaden oiden custom”, under this motto, which still applies today to the approximately 250 members, the founding meeting took place on June 5, 1921. At the initiative of the miner Hans Achmüller “24 local boys and girls met 9 Deandl'n ”to lay the foundation for a traditional costume association. "They made it their task to maintain and promote the Oberland costume and the good old manners and customs in the peaceful village in the Hungerbachtal," wrote Hans Baur, then and now 1st secretary of the "D'Werdenfelser" in a commemorative publication.
This 151-page brochure was published in 2001 on the occasion of the festival week, at which five clubs celebrated an anniversary in mid-May: 125 years of volunteer fire brigade, 125 years of shooting society, 80 years of traditional costume, 50 years of music band and 30 years of musicians and fanfares. In retrospect, Baur recalls: “There had never been anything like it in Huglfing. The festival lasted ten days and was a complete success. ”A similar festival would have been planned for the summer under chairman Josef Sepp - together with SC 1920 Huglfing, who couldn't celebrate their 100th anniversary last year.
It is the festivals, celebrations, parades and processions on both secular and church occasions in Huglfing that not only shape the life of the traditional costume club, but also help to shape life in the village. Mayor Markus Huber, for whom the promotion and support of voluntary work and club life is a personal concern, praises his clubs: "This is where values such as community and solidarity are created, here people are there for one another, this is where village communities arise." would be funded and received: "This is also the case with our traditional costumes."
Also in the Oberland costume association - Huglfing is one of the northernmost members - "D'Werdenfelser" have been active for decades: They are not only welcome guests at the celebrations of other traditional costume associations in the Oberland. They have already organized the big guest festivals with parades of hundreds of traditional costumes and music bands - the first time in 1954. Important dates in club years not affected by the pandemic include participation in Leonhardi trips, theater performances, traditional costume wreaths and the Christmas tree auction.
One of the biggest events in the club's history took place on December 16, 1977: "After countless hours of voluntary work and a 13-month construction period", as Secretary Baur enumerates, the Trachtenheim, built in the alpine style on a hill above the Hungerbachtal, was inaugurated: "Customs and club life should find a structural home here for the benefit of the village community," says the chronicle of the mountain costume preservation association.
At the end of last week, the Trachtler board met and decided to plan an open-air church service with memorials for the dead for the beginning of September.
The exact date has yet to be agreed with SC Huglfing.
Whether a small celebration or a bar is possible afterwards depends on the Corona situation, it was said after the meeting.
