The metropolitan low-emission zone (ZFE), established in 2019 within the interior of the A86, is experiencing a new phase of expansion: on June 1, the restrictions on the circulation of polluting cars extend to models classified Crit'Air 4. Explanations.
Which vehicles are affected?
Crit'Air 4 stickers, that is to say diesel cars registered before January 1, 2006 and motorized two-wheelers from before July 2004. Crit'Air 5 and unclassified vehicles are already concerned, namely Even older diesels as well as gasolines registered before January 1, 1997 and two-wheelers before June 1, 2000.
Where and when ?
They are no longer allowed to use the inner ring on the A86, from Monday to Friday for cars and every day for buses and coaches, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
What is the risk in the event of an infringement?
For heavy goods vehicles, buses and coaches, a fine of 135 euros. And for other vehicles, 68 euros flat rate. Even if they are rare, the checks can be carried out randomly. It is penalized to circulate when you are not allowed to do so, but also to circulate without an air quality certificate in a low emission zone (ZFE) or to affix the wrong Crit'Air sticker. Violations can result in the immobilization of the vehicle.
Are there any exceptions?
Yes a lot. In addition to ambulances or emergency cars, there are also vehicles assigned to approved civil security associations, those of charitable associations, removals or used for filming, sporting events or collection vehicles.
What is a Crit'Air sticker?
Affixed to the windshield, it shows in color the membership of one of the six Crit'Air categories, from low-polluting vehicles to very polluting vehicles.
The “unclassified” vehicles are the oldest vehicles (first registration before 1997) which do not have a Crit'Air sticker and therefore do not enter into the classification.
The Crit'Air sticker, valid for the entire life of the vehicle, is issued on the basis of the information appearing on the registration document (engine, vehicle age, etc.).
All road vehicles are concerned: two-wheelers, three-wheelers, quadricycles, cars, utility vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, buses and coaches.

What is the timetable for the future?
In July 2022, Crit'Air 3 vehicles will be closed to traffic. Then on January 1, 2024, the Crit'Air 2, that is to say almost all diesel vehicles. In 2030, gasoline-powered vehicles could in turn be banned.
