The Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus announced that it intends to file a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice over the sanctions imposed by the European Union on Minsk.

The Belarusian "Belta" news agency quoted EU President Mikhail Orda as saying that "United Nations resolutions constantly affirm that no country has the right to impose restrictive coercive measures, including sanctions... which the European Union completely ignores."

Orda pointed out that the European Union cited internal documents as a reason for imposing its sanctions on Minsk and that this “affects the interests of countries that are not part of the European Union, and therefore the rules of international law must be applied in this case,” noting that the reason for filing the lawsuit is “to obtain a legal assessment of knowing legality of such documents.

Orda pointed out that the European Union's behavior towards the Belarusian airline "Bellavia" clearly shows that it "completely ignores international law, as no investigation has been opened into the recent accident of the plane and there are no results, yet sanctions were taken to stop the activity of our airline," pointing out This directly affects the lives of many people who have nothing to do with the accident, as they have been deprived of their work and monthly salaries, as the material damage to the company has reached hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Orda called on the international community to react with this practice that harms the world order and "stop the aggressive policy of some countries".

Minsk had informed Washington yesterday of the need to reduce the staff of the US diplomatic mission in response to the US announcement that it would restore sanctions against Belarusian companies that would affect nine companies in the petrochemical sector.
