Despite months of lockdown, the mood among companies in the Munich region has improved noticeably.
The economy is returning to its recovery course.
District
- The economic index rose from 95 to 112 points in the spring.
For its economic report, the IHK surveyed numerous companies in the districts of Munich, Ebersberg, Starnberg, Erding, Freising, Dachau, Fürstenfeldbruck and Landsberg am Lech as well as in the state capital.
The companies are therefore visibly more satisfied with their current business situation than they were at the beginning of the year.
These results reflect a two-part economy.
The split
The split is likely to be largely due to government measures to contain the coronavirus.
So far, the recovery has largely passed by in industries affected by the corona restrictions.
These include stationary retail, the tourism industry, the cultural and creative industries, the event industry and personal services.
In contrast, the situation has improved significantly in export-heavy industry and in companies that are closely linked to industry.
Get out of the circles
“We are well on the way out of the crisis.
But more efforts are needed in vaccination and testing for a safe and reliable start in many industries, ”explains Otto Heinz, spokesman for the IHK forum for the Munich region and vice president of the IHK.
The struggle for economic existence is still part of everyday business life in some areas.
The consequences
With a view to the risks for companies mentioned in the survey, Heinz is calling for lower electricity prices in order to cushion the negative effects of the current plans for rising CO2 prices.
“In addition, we need competitive corporate taxes, investments in digitization, education and infrastructure for a new start in the economy.”
