INTERVIEW - From election to election, he considers that this strategy accredits the idea of complicity between the parties.

Professor at Sciences Po, Dominique Reynié is Managing Director of the Foundation for Political Innovation (Fondapol).

- Why does the Republican front against the National Rally (RN) seem to show signs of weakness?

Dominique REYNIÉ. -

The appeal to the republican front is only effective if it is exceptional. However, it repeats itself. Moreover, its effectiveness depends on the causes of the political crisis. During the second round of the 2002 presidential election, it was based on the observation of an electoral accident. In fact, Jean-Marie Le Pen was himself surprised. He found himself propelled to the second round obviously unintentionally, following abstention and electoral dispersion more harmful to the left. In 2022, it will be very different. To date, Marine Le Pen is guaranteed to be in the second round. If she is beaten, it will not be because the voters will put up a "dam" against her, but because they will choose a project other than hers.
