The rider is currently in Monaco, where he resides. "He will observe a period of isolation before returning to Colombia, where he will celebrate his coronation on the Giro", said his team.
The positive test of the winner of the 2019 Tour does not call into question his presence on the Grande Boucle, where he was not expected to perform, as his team Ineos Grenadiers announced at the start of the season.
Egan Bernal has tested positive for COVID-19 following a routine test on Thursday ahead of his planned return to Colombia this weekend.
