Jason Dupasquier, a 19-year-old Swiss Moto3 rider, has died after suffering a serious accident during Saturday's qualifying session at the Italian Grand Prix, MotoGP announced on Sunday.

"Dupasquier was involved in an incident involving several motorcyclists between turns 9 and 10, and the session was red flagged thereafter," the statement read.

“The FIM medical intervention vehicles arrived at the scene immediately and the Swiss pilot was treated on the track before being transferred by medical helicopter, in a stable condition, to the Careggi Hospital in Florence.

"Despite the best efforts of the circuit medical staff and all those who subsequently treated the Swiss rider, the hospital has announced that Dupasquier has sadly succumbed to his injuries."

Jason Dupasquier's teammates held a minute of silence in his memory on Sunday.

His team, Prüstel GP, said on Facebook: “We are devastated, and right now all our thoughts are with Jason's family.

We will miss you and never forget you, Jason.

MotoGP added on Twitter: »On behalf of the entire MotoGP family, we send our love to your team, your family and your loved ones.
