Lenggrieser Hütte is freshly renovated: But a new start with many obstacles

The Lenggrieser Hütte below the Seekar summit is one of the most attractive and most visited hiking destinations in the Isarwinkel, and it can also be reached in winter. In the future, the hut should attract even more visitors: the building and the terrace have been rebuilt, the sanitary area has been redesigned. The Alpine Club had the modernization cost 350,000 euros.

In the future, the hut should attract even more visitors: the building and the terrace have been rebuilt, the sanitary area has been redesigned.

The Alpine Club had the modernization cost 350,000 euros.

- The framework conditions for the renovation were anything but easy. The work was originally supposed to start in 2019, but then an early onset of winter ruined the plan. On May 8, 2020, the Lenggries section under the leadership of chairwoman Sabine Rest made another attempt. Around 20 members helped to keep the renovation going. This time the organizers had to struggle with the first corona lockdown. On July 18, day-to-day business could gradually begin. But now the building inspectors spoke up and asked for a skylight in the stairwell. In the middle of August, the Durach family was finally able to receive the first overnight guests. The company ran on the back burner for a few weeks due to the corona restrictions, then the tenants had to close again due to the second lockdown.

On this Saturday, the overnight stay started for the second time, but the landlords are again only allowed to occupy a fraction of the 52 available beds.

"It's all a bit difficult," admits Michaela Durach.

New toilets on the first floor

The Lenggrieser Hütte would be ideally equipped for full-load operation. Above all, spending the night in the seven mattress dorms is now much more comfortable. If guests wanted to go from the camps to the toilets at night, they previously had to go down the stairs and then cross the dining room. There are now separate toilets and washrooms for overnight guests on the first floor. There are also new toilets for day trippers on the ground floor. A lot else has happened in the Lenggrieser Hütte. There are new windows in the extension, the entrance area is much more spacious and the living room has been embellished. If there were no corona restrictions, there would now be space for 35 people and a further 20 in the adjoining room.

One and a half years after the start of the corona pandemic, the framework conditions are still anything but easy. Only people from one household are allowed to move into the mattress dorms. The overnight guests must either be tested, vaccinated or recovered. At the tables on the terrace - between which there is sufficient space - guests are currently allowed to take a seat without a test or vaccination certificate. In order to straighten everything out, Michaela Durach set up additional beer benches around the building. The renovation is to be refinanced through slightly higher fees. Alpine Club members now pay 12.50 instead of 8.50 euros per night. Non-members now have to shell out EUR 22.50 instead of EUR 18.50 (more information at www.lenggrieserhuette.de).
