Nuremberg - week after week, progress can be seen on Regensburger Strasse in the east of Nuremberg *: With the new August-Meier-Haus, a modern care home is to be built here, which will also serve as a contact point for all people from the surrounding districts.
As

, the construction of the new nursing home of the municipal developer NürnbergStift (NüSt) should be completed by the end of 2022.
The first residents should move in from 2023.
Nuremberg: The concept of the new August Meier House
Nursing is the focus of the new August-Meier-Haus: 158 inpatient places are to be created here, around 30 of them for people with dementia. Ten of the 158 places in a “care oasis” are reserved for people in need of special care and those who are bedridden. In addition to the stationary places, there is a day care facility for 16 visitors, which also offers integrated night care with four places.
The residents will live in single rooms.
According to Michael Pflüger and Barbara Sterl from NüSt, privacy is particularly important.
Still, community life is central to the concept.
Clubs should be able to use rooms, cafeteria and hairdressing salon as well as outdoor facilities should be publicly accessible.
Community is also reflected in living: twelve to 15 people in need of care each share a communal kitchen and living area.
Nuremberg: Municipal authority refrains from using fossil fuels in construction
131 currently live in the August-Meier-Heim.
However, the existing buildings no longer meet the requirements for care facilities for a long time.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new building took place in September 2020.
Since then, work has progressed well and is going according to plan.
Barbara Sterl from NüSt reports that you see progress every day.
Originally, NüSt had calculated construction costs of 34 million euros.
These have now risen again to around 35 million euros, as the city-sponsoring authority does without fossil fuels and instead uses a heat pump for heating.
Most of the electricity is to be generated by a photovoltaic system on the roof.
