As in previous years, the Freising schoolchildren once again stepped on the pedals for “School Cycle 2020”.

The winning teams have now been honored - completely corona compliant.

Freising

- As part of the “city cycling”, a total of 112 students from 20 classes took part in the “school cycling” campaign from June 21 to July 11, 2020, which was specifically aimed at the Freising schools. Ten teachers from two schools supported the classes in their own school teams.

At the Camerloher-Gymnasium, teams from last year's grades 5a, 5d, 5e, 6a, 6c, 6d, 6e, 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d and 9c participated. At the Josef-Hofmiller-Gymnasium (JoHo) a total of five teams started last school year with the former classes 5d, 5e, 5f, 7d and. 9c. The youngest of the Vötting elementary school were also involved in the campaign with teams from the previous classes 1a and 2b. Overall, the children and young people in these classes cycled 20,000 kilometers in the three weeks of action - halfway around the world!

For the third time, the “Building, Housing and Transport” project group of the Agenda21 and Social Advisory Council honors the teams that have shown particular commitment.

This is intended to consciously motivate other students to contribute to the success of their own class together, if possible, and thus to show how much they care about climate protection.

Through the commitment of the committed participants in “school cycling”, a total of almost three tons of CO2 were saved.

The honor

Because last year, due to the corona restrictions, no big closing event of the Freising Cycling Summer with an award for school cycling, city cycling and the campaign "With the bike in the city" was possible (we reported), the students were honored differently this time.

Jürgen Maguhn and Johann Englmüller, the two spokesmen for the project group “Building, Housing and Transport”, and Dominik Fuchs, mobility officer for the city of Freising, visited the students at their respective schools.

The results

At the JoHo, classes that unfortunately did not take first place in the two categories “Most kilometers” and “Highest participation”, despite their great performance, were personally presented with a certificate of participation. At the primary school in Vötting and at the Camerloher-Gymnasium, in which so many teams had participated that the distances could not have been kept in a personal honor, the teams received the certificate of participation from their teachers. The groups of the Camerloher-Gymnasium could take home some prizes in the categories “Highest participation” and “Most cycled kilometers”. With a fantastic participation of 71 percent of the entire class, the previous 5a was right at the top and captain Clemens Hutter was able to look forward to 200 euros on behalf of the team.

They were closely followed by last year's 6e, in which 63 percent of the class participated and which received prize money of 100 euros as a thank you.

Sarah Krüger accepted the award here.

Third place went to the team from the former class 1a of the Vötting elementary school.

Vincent Scherbel accepted the award (50 euros) on behalf of his team.

Both Camerloher teams achieved great performances in the kilometers cycled: 2nd place and thus 100 euros go to last year's class 5a (2691 km) and 3rd place, which was endowed with 50 euros, to last year's 6e (2354 km).

However, these great values were not enough for the top spot and the prize money of 200 euros.

That goes to the Josef-Hofmiller-Gymnasium and the team from last year's class 9c with the top performance of 3351 km.

It is therefore not surprising that two students from last year's 9c won the individual prizes for the most kilometers cycled: Quirin Huber (1500 km) received prize money of 100 euros, Leo Walter (1104 km) received the 50 euro bonus .

In addition, the two also accepted the award for their team's first place.

Third in the individual ranking was Anya Knudsen from last year's 5a of the Camerloher-Gymnasium with 728 km.

There was a bonus of 25 euros for this.

The school award

In addition, the city of Freising awarded the school prize to the school with the most kilometers cycled: With a total of 11 119 km, the Camerloher-Gymnasium defended its title from the previous year in 2020.
