The absence of management at the funeral of the "most decorated" policeman in Essonne makes people cringe

2021-06-04T20:37:14.326Z

This 49-year-old civil servant ended his life on May 26 in the Loire department. His funeral took place this Friday

The atmosphere was heavy this Friday morning in the Church of the Holy Spirit in Viry-Chatillon (Essonne), a modern, austere building, built in the 1960s. “Many police officers were crying, reports Jean-Marie Vilain, the mayor. (IDU) of the municipality. Myself, speaking of it, I am still moved ”. Nearly 350 people from all over the Île de France and even from the whole of France paid a last tribute to Stéphane P., 49 years old, their colleague who chose on May 26 to end his life with his weapon of service. He was found dead in his car by the roadside, in the town of Saint-Romain-la-Motte, near Roanne, in the Loire. According to our information, he left a letter, the contents of which have not been revealed. It is in the hands of the local gendarmes in charge of the investigation.

The sadness turned into anger because of two notable absences: that of Thierry Ferré, director of public security (DDSP) of Essonne and that of his deputy. They were represented by the boss of the Public Order Service (SOP) to which Stéphane belonged for 23 years, since leaving school in 1998. Contacted by Le Parisien, the boss of the Essonne police officers confirmed that "the departmental management was represented by the head of the public order service, service in which MP was assigned until March 2021. "Thierry Ferré adds:" The departmental management and the zonal training management have also facilitated the participation of officers in the funeral by the provision of two buses and allowing the escort of the funeral procession by two motorcyclists.A minute of silence was organized in all departments at the time of the funeral, including that of Évry, which I chaired. "

"It's one more disappointment"

“Commissioners who have known him in the past have made the trip, sometimes from the south of France, protests one of Stéphane's colleagues.

People flew to his funeral.

And our direction does not come… It is one more disappointment.

Stéphane was not a simple civil servant.

He was the most decorated policeman in Essonne.

He had almost all the medals.

The police were his family ”.

Claude Carillo from Alliance police nationale 91 reacted: “We do not understand this noticeable absence.

"

In May 2014, Le Parisien gave this father the nickname of “the bravest policeman” of the department. To his credit: an intervention in the pavilion of a suicidal man threatening to blow himself up with gas cylinders, the evacuation of a plane crashed during take-off, the control of a desperate man wanting to jump from a bridge to the- above the A6. He had also saved two young men from the flames of a traffic accident, one of them being trapped by his airbag. "He was above the rest," portrays a policeman. He was of superior intelligence ”.

An exemplary career which took a turn leading to his request for a transfer to another service. Two internal investigations are underway to determine what led to this tragedy and in particular the relations he had with two police commanders which would have pushed him to request this other assignment in the former Draveil police academy.

The Alliance union, of which he was a delegate, also requested and obtained an investigation into the psycho-social risks within the SOP by the Health, Safety and Working Conditions Committee (CHSCT). According to our information, the family of the chief brigadier had indicated that they did not wish the presence of these two commanders at the funeral. A former colleague of Stéphane concludes: “We want to find the human. There is a gap between what our hierarchy says and what it does. In Viry-Chatillon, there is also a strong symbol (Editor's note: it is in this city that four police officers were seriously injured in October 2016 during a Molotov cocktail attack). The police officers of Essonne have taken a heavy toll in recent years ”.
