Moscow, SANA- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin discussed in a phone call with the United Nations Special Envoy

Moscow-Sana

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin discussed in a telephone conversation with the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen the situation in Syria and ways to find a political solution to the crisis there.

A statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry today said: “During the call, a detailed discussion of the current situation in Syria was held, with emphasis on the task of intensifying humanitarian aid and advancing the political settlement process on the basis of respect for the country’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity, as stipulated in UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254".

Resolution 2254, which was unanimously adopted by the UN Security Council in December 2015, affirms that the Syrians are the ones who determine the future of their country themselves without any external interference, and that terrorist organizations are outside any political process.
