Unterföhring

- seating islands with round shapes and trees are intended to beautify the forecourt in front of the Unterföhring community center.

The redesign has been an issue for a long time.

The first prototype has now been set up, and the citizens are gradually getting an idea of what the square will look like in concrete terms and have been able to try out its seats.

The feedback was therefore largely positive.

In the meeting of the building, traffic and property committee, however, landscape planner Peter Martin also had to listen to criticism. A citizen complained in a letter to the town hall that backrests were missing - "not usable for more mature citizens," she concluded. She also disliked the combination of wood and concrete on the square. And the trees shouldn't be in the seating island, but rather planted in the square. This is not possible because of the underground car park underneath, explained planner Peter Martin at the meeting and explained the idea behind the design again: “It was actually about changing the character of the square.” The community center is a meeting point and communication space. “The square should also appear inviting as a public stage.” The organic shape of the seating island, the natural element wood and the tree are a warm and bright contrast to the strictly geometric town house made of concrete and glass. With the trees providing shade in the seating island, the microclimate on the square is also improved.

Prototype costs 42 140 euros

The prototype set up cost 42 140 euros.

The steel construction is expensive, said Martin, thanks to which the seating island can be dismantled and stacked, plus the cost increases in the construction market.

Thomas Weingärtner (SPD), the design is too complex: “Ismaning showed us at the Seidlmühle how to design a large square.

Six big ships are too massive for me. ”They would rob the space of its effect.

Female gardeners would do four seating islands.

Manfred Axenbeck (CSU) and Jutta Schödl (SPD) advocated backrests.

“I found the seating island to be rather uncomfortable,” said Schödl, “for young people it's great for lying down.

If I were 30, I would love it. "

The committee agreed that four instead of six seating islands should be set up, two of which should have backrests.

Five transportable tree modules will also be set up on the stairs between the pub garden and the bus stop.
