Moscow-Sana

Syria's ambassador to Russia, Dr. Riad Haddad, affirmed that the broad popular participation in the presidential elections reflects the Syrian people's adherence to their national unity, the policy of their country and their president, and their will to decide their own future and their refusal to submit to any external pressure or blackmail.

In his speech today in front of a video conference with graduates from Arab countries who completed their studies in Soviet and Russian universities and institutes on the sidelines of the International Economic Forum held in St. Petersburg, Haddad stressed that the Syrian people proved during those elections that they have the right and the final word in granting legitimacy to any constitutional entitlement. He indicated that those elections, which were organized at the highest level and were accompanied by parliamentary delegations from several countries, confirmed the level of Syria's commitment to observing the rules regulating the electoral process.

Ambassador Haddad clarified that the reckless behavior of many Western countries that prevented the Syrians from performing their national duty under illegal pretexts confirm the failure of those countries to achieve their aggressive goals in Syria.

Haddad also referred to the policies of Western countries towards Syria over the past years, such as supporting terrorist organizations, imposing unilateral coercive economic measures, obstructing the return of Syrian refugees, spreading lies and misleading campaigns, and occupying areas of the country with the aim of stealing its resources and capabilities such as oil and wheat to increase the suffering of the Syrian people and target them for their livelihood. .

Haddad indicated that in addition to the arbitrary and colonial policies of the West, the Turkish regime also deliberately cut off drinking water from the people in Al-Hasakah Governorate and the surrounding areas, and its criminal measures led to the deprivation of the downstream countries of Syria and Iraq from the water imports of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, in clear violation of the agreements concluded in this regard.

Haddad stressed that Syria is proceeding with the expulsion of all foreign forces on its territory without an invitation from the Syrian state because it has the legitimate right to defend its sovereignty and expel the occupiers and invaders in parallel with its commitment to a political process under the ownership and leadership of Syria without any external interference in addition to the reconstruction of the country's infrastructure and the return of refugees to their country.
