The youth vaccination program for 16-12 year olds against the Corona virus in Israel will be officially launched tomorrow (Sunday) at the four HMOs, about six months after the adult vaccination and after much deliberation.

Some of the funds have already vaccinated the first vaccinated in recent days with the Pfizer vaccine.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, there are 600,000 youths in the age range in question who are eligible for the vaccine in Israel.

Thousands of teens have already scheduled vaccinations at the box office ahead of next week.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Pfizer vaccine for children about a month ago.

Since then, there have been vigorous discussions in the Ministry of Health and the Vaccines Committee, on the question of whether to recommend the vaccines or be content with opening them to anyone who is interested.

The dilemma arose because of reports of myocarditis, in the vicinity of receiving the second dose of the vaccine, especially in men aged 30-16.

Admittedly, all the reports ended up with only mild inflammation, but the Ministry of Health decided not to take risks, especially due to the low coronary heart disease situation in the country.

The Ministry of Health has finally decided to recommend vaccinating young people against corona, if it is in the following circumstances: risk factors for severe coronary heart disease, such as obesity, ie BMI which is over 95% for age and sex, immunosuppression, organ or bone marrow transplant Malignant conditions, genetic syndrome, neurological or neuromuscular or developmental disease, severe chronic pulmonary disease, renal failure, heart failure, diabetes, sickle cell disease or pulmonary hypertension.

In addition, it is recommended to vaccinate adolescents if they come into close contact with family members or other people who have risk factors for serious illness from the virus, or if they are planning a trip abroad. Beyond that, the other adolescents included in this age group can be vaccinated, if they Are interested in it.

Some HMOs have already begun vaccinating teens.

Einat Weiser, director of the vaccination campaign in the Sharon Shomron district of Clalit Health Fund, vaccinated her 15-year-old son, Barak Weiser.

Noam Zeevi, 14, from Pardes Hanna, was also vaccinated today at Clalit's vaccination complex in Hadera.

Yosefa Zeevi, Noam's mother, said: "It was clear to Noam that he was getting vaccinated. He was really expecting it and now he is busy convincing friends that he should get vaccinated. I am also happy that he is vaccinated and believe that we are stepping up in the eradication of the corona."

According to the Ministry of Health, the age group that was vaccinated at the lowest rate so far was in the age range between 19-16 with only 59% vaccinated.

However, it is also the age group with the highest recovery rate among adults.

By comparison, between the ages of 50 and 90, 89% were vaccinated, but only 11% of patients recovered.

Maccabi HMO emphasizes that more than 80% of the HMO members in the 18-16 age group have already been vaccinated against Corona, the highest rate among the HMOs, by a significant margin.
