Storm warning for Bavaria: Heavy thunderstorms are approaching - then the weather changes

The German Weather Service has issued a severe weather warning of severe thunderstorms for large parts of Bavaria.

The east of the Free State is particularly at risk.

And the DWD also fears bad things for Saturday. The authority has issued an official severe weather warning * for the entire north and east of Bavaria. The warning area stretches from the Bad Kissingen district to Hof in the north and from Erlangen via Nuremberg *, Regensburg to Altötting and from there to the Czech border.

The DWD warns literally for these areas: “From late morning onwards, strong local thunderstorms develop, which can be thunderstorm-like, mainly due to heavy rain.

Quantities of around 30 l / m² are to be expected locally, and extremely heavy rain of 50 l / m² can occur in a short period of time.

Similar amounts of rain are possible over several hours when the thunderstorm cells grow together.

Other side effects such as large accumulations of hail and gusts of wind up to 85 km / h play a rather subordinate role.

The thunderstorm activity subsides on Sunday night. ”The warning applies until Sunday night.

Acute severe weather warnings for several districts in Bavaria

In addition, there are several acute severe weather warnings of level 4 out of five possible levels.

All districts in the Oberland from Miesbach to Schongau and the Allgäu are affected.

In northern Bavaria there is a warning for the districts of Ansbach, Neumarkt, Kelheim and Regensburg *.

The DWD warns the affected regions: “There are thunderstorms.

There is heavy rain with precipitation amounts of up to 40 l / m² per hour as well as squalls with speeds of up to 70 km / h (20m / s, 38kn, Bft 8) and small-grained hail. ”The warning is still valid until 2pm.
