A hiker who traveled from Bonn to Mittenwald was reported missing on Friday.
A major search was initiated - with sad results.

- The 65-year-old traveled to Mittenwald by train on Tuesday.
There he apparently wanted to climb the eastern Karwendelspitze, possibly also the Vogelkarspitze.
According to the police, the hiker was well equipped and driven downhill.

Alone, he never returned.
The search for the missing person with forces from the Mittenwald mountain rescue service, the Scharnitz mountain rescue service and the police in the German-Austrian border area, with the support of police helicopters, lasted until Saturday.
In the end, the missing person could only be rescued dead on Austrian territory by the Scharnitz mountain rescue service.
