Hundreds of different age groups participated today in the environmental marathon held by the Directorate of Environment in Lattakia Governorate under the title "Our environment is our responsibility", within the framework of partnership between various public agencies and community events to enhance the environmental reality.

The marathon, which was also part of the ongoing celebrations of the results of the presidential elections and the victory of President Bashar al-Assad, was launched in front of the Yacht Club on the Blue Beach highway, passing through the western corniche of Lattakia and to the end point in Margla Square, where the first three winners were honored.

Harut Lentian, who participated in the marathon and came third, pointed out in a statement to SANA the importance of this initiative as a step towards preserving the environment, and said: "Civilizations are built on peoples... and the Syrians have given the world a new meaning of progress and civilization with their steadfastness," adding: In this marathon we put the slogan of hope in sports and work. We extend our congratulations to the Syrian people for the success of the elections and the victory of President Bashar al-Assad in them.

For his part, Ahmed Ali Al-Nasser, an athletics player who came first, indicated that the participation was not for the purpose of winning as much as achieving participation and highlighting this event to express our love for President Bashar al-Assad in a different way and under the slogan of hope for action.

In turn, Gibran Bashir, Executive Director of the Autism Society in Lattakia, which participated in the marathon, stated that participation is a major part of the association's endeavor to integrate people with autism into society and to be active people and to familiarize other participants with their abilities through this decent and civilized gathering.

Children aged 6 and 10 participated in the marathon with their families, expressing their joy at this participation, including Hamza Darwish, Hajar Halima and Ahmed Halima, who indicated that it was their first time in such participation and wanted to offer their blessing to President Bashar al-Assad in the elections.

Dr. Lama Ahmed, Director of the Environment, confirmed that the marathon embodies the title of hope in the environment, sports and work for the transition to a healthy society, pointing to the aspiration to hold large-scale activities concerned with the environment in all its aspects, including on the shores of the sea with the start of the tourist season.

A member of the Executive Office of the Education and Youth Sector, Dr. Amir Ismail, said that the marathon reflects the societal and participatory role in promoting environmental awareness that starts from the individual to the community and spreads a culture of cooperation and work in all fields.

The marathon was attended by Latakia Governor Ibrahim Khader Al-Salem.
