Under the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the global aviation industry is in depression. Cathay Pacific laid off more than 5,000 Hong Kong employees in October last year, suspended Dragonair, and then closed its outstations in Canada and Frankfurt, Germany.

Cathay Pacific recently decided to close Australia's outstation next month, affecting about 120 pilots.

Cathay Pacific General Manager Deborah McConnochie sent a letter to employees stating that there are no alternatives to the shutdown. The affected pilots can choose to continue working in Hong Kong; or they can choose to leave their jobs to receive compensation.

In April of this year, Cathay Pacific had sent a letter to its employees stating that it intended to close the Australian outstation. At that time, the Australian trade union had put forward a number of suggestions.

However, Cathay Pacific recently sent a letter saying that after listening to the opinions of employees and unions, it finally decided to close the Australian Outstation, describing that we were not able to find an alternative.

Cathay Pacific emphasized that it was a difficult decision, and this move does not reflect the work performance of the Australian outstation employees.

According to Australian media reports, a total of about 120 pilots were affected. From June 7 to 27, pilots at outstations will need to decide whether to transfer to Hong Kong or leave.

Cathay Pacific said that if employees do not have the right of abode in Hong Kong and fail to obtain a work visa before September 29, they will be deemed to have resigned.

As for the employees who choose to resign, they will formally resign on July 1, and receive a compensation, including 6 months' salary.

Cathay Pacific has repeatedly shut down outside stations during the epidemic, including New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. In April last year, it closed the cabin attendant stations in the United States, involving 286 cabin attendants stationed in the United States. It was confirmed that the Canadian aircraft was shut down in April. Stations outside the division, and it is rumored that the arrangements for outstations of European and American pilots will be reviewed.
