Ten schools in the district of Ebersberg are now to benefit.

District

- The corona pandemic has relentlessly highlighted the weaknesses of the broadband expansion in the Ebersberg district. In some places, homeschooling was not possible at all or only to a limited extent without disruption. There was criticism of the Bavarian state government from teachers, students and annoyed parents. This reacts. Finance Minister Albert Füracker (CSU) has handed over a funding decision of over 400,000 euros for ten schools. 7500 schoolchildren should benefit from this measure.

“Our goal: fiber optic connection for every public school in the Free State! With our support of ten schools in the district of Ebersberg with the connection to a future-proof fiber optic network, we come one step closer to this goal! ”, Said Füracker full-bodied on the occasion of the virtual handover of the funding notification according to the Bavarian fiber optic WLAN guideline. The fiber optic connection of the public schools is a central concern of the Bavarian state government. More than 98 percent of public schools are already supplied with high-speed internet. In order to optimally set up Bavaria's educational institutions digitally, the Free State is going even further and promoting the development with high-performance fiber optics. “With a grant of 429,332 euros, 7500 schoolchildren will benefit from the highest bandwidths in the future!“Said Füracker when handing over the decision.

These are the schools that come into play

According to the Ministry of Finance, 99 percent of public schools in Bavaria are connected with fiber optics or have initiated fiber optics.

At least 1 Gbit / s is currently available at 68 percent of public schools in the Free State.

The Dr.-Wintrich-Realschule and the Landwirtschaftsschule in Ebersberg, the Max-Mannheimer-Gymnasium and the Johann-Comenius-Schule in Grafing, the Lena-Christ-Realschule and the Franz-Marc-Gymnasium in Markt Schwaben, the Dominic-Brunner -Realschule and the water lily school in Poing, the grammar school in Kirchseeon and the Humboldt grammar school in Vaterstetten would now be connected with gigabit fiber optic cables.

Füracker sees Bavaria as a European pioneer

In addition to the promotion of direct fiber optic connections for public schools, planned hospitals and town halls, broadband expansion has also been promoted for private households and companies for years.

With its Bavarian Gigabit Directive, which came into force in March 2020, Bavaria is a pioneer in promoting funding in areas where there is already at least fast internet.

30 Mbit / s is available (so-called "gray spots").

The Ministry of Finance says: "This means that the Bavarian municipalities have the best framework conditions to promote the expansion of high-speed networks."
