The construction of a Lego town in the Free Evangelical Congregation is an integral part of the vacation.

Despite Corona, 14 children were happy about this offer again.

Germering -

For the 13th time, the Free Evangelical Church on Bahnhofsplatz organized the construction of the Lego city.

It turned out to be a good omen.

Because even before the Whitsun holidays it quickly became clear: "The 14 places were quickly booked up," as Pastor Thomas Scheitacker reports.

Registrations for the construction of the Lego city are "never reluctant", as the pastor puts it with satisfaction.

He does not have to worry that a place will not be booked there.

One girl and 13 boys between the ages of eight and eleven came to participate.

“And we were happy that the incidence figures provided security early on,” said Scheitacker.

A corona-related cancellation was never in the room.

That was especially important for the children, explains Scheitacker.

"They were longing to go outside." They finally wanted to do something again. "Together with their peers," adds the pastor of the Free Evangelical Congregation.

For him it feels a little like the kids have been given a lobby again.

Politics, for example, paid more attention to many others.

“The children were allowed to suffer in silence,” said the pastor.

The three days in which the Lego city was tinkered with for two hours each had proven that the girls and boys are coping well with the circumstances of the pandemic.

“The children have already done well with the mask from school,” Scheitacker praises the discipline of the children.

In addition to good ventilation, the hygiene concept also included the requirement that tinkering was only carried out in pairs and never exchanged with one another.

During the summer vacation, the Free Evangelical Community wants to set up a Lego city again as part of the summer vacation program.

According to Scheitacker, this is planned for the first and second week of the holiday.

The pastor hopes that there will be room for more than the 14 children currently admitted.

Of course, this depends on the developments in the current corona situation.

But if it can only be carried out within the current framework, that is of course okay, emphasizes Scheitacker.

"Better a small setting than no offer at all." You can see that in the joy of the children who have now taken part in the Whitsun holidays.

“It is so important to give them this joy,” says Scheitacker.

He found support during the three days of the Whitsun vacation with Saphira Winklhofer.

She is a member of the youth group in the Free Evangelical Congregation.

“I don't have much to do with Lego.” But when Scheitacker asked her to help with the supervision, she happily agreed.

"For the children," says Winklhofer.
