An act of violence shook Penzberg: On Sunday evening, a 39-year-old man seriously injured his 32-year-old wife with a knife.

The neighborhood in Reindl is still in shock.

Penzberg - The neighbors had, as the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South reported, heard noise from the house in which the perpetrator lived with his family at around 6.30 p.m.

Shortly afterwards, the bloodied woman fled to a neighboring property, where they met.

She came to the hospital for intensive treatment and had to be operated on immediately.

She is now out of danger, according to the police.

After violence against his wife: Man is arrested by the police

The Penzberg police arrested the perpetrator on the spot on the street.

The 39-year-old Afghan made no resistance.

He spent the night in the police detention cell and was brought before the investigating judge for a detention review yesterday on charges of attempted murder.

After consultation with the youth welfare office, the couple's children were placed in the care of relatives.

The day after the act of violence, the traces of the violence were still clearly visible: no one had yet removed the blood stains on the few steps up to the entrance of the two-family house, which was a little down and overgrown on the street side.

Wife is still severely injured after the knife attack and can escape to the neighbors

From the doorstep, the tracks led over to the neighboring house, where the injured wife was able to escape, according to a local resident.

The resident, who does not want to be named, was visibly shocked by the events on Monday morning.

The family, she said, had only lived in the house since April 22nd.

However, their own children often played with the couple's six children.

She never thought that the husband could become violent towards his wife.

"There was absolutely no sign of it," she said.

The alleged perpetrator speaks hardly any German

The woman from Penzberg emphasized that she had barely been able to talk to the man because he spoke almost no German.

But she always experienced him as a “very loving family man” who played football with his children on the lawn by the house.

On Sunday around 6:25 p.m., the couple's children ran to their house.

“You screamed for help,” said the woman from Penzberg.

“I'm over there.” But at this point the victim had already fled to the other house next door.

Homicide in Eberfing: husband is in custody

The current act of violence in a marriage that was committed in Penzberg was not the first to cause a stir in the district this year: On the evening of February 5th, it was a Friday evening, a woman was killed in Eberfing. According to the police at the time, the 66-year-old husband attacked his 69-year-old wife after an argument and then seriously injured himself. Then he made an emergency call. The husband is still under strong suspicion of having killed his wife. According to the press office of the Munich II public prosecutor's office, the case has now been charged and is pending at the regional court in Munich. A date for the negotiation has not yet been set. The husband is still in custody, said the press spokeswoman.

Andrea Steidl, the district's equal opportunities officer, believes that these acts of violence, both of which were committed within the marriage, are an expression of a worrying development.

About four years ago, she launched the "Round Table Against Domestic Violence", to which, until the start of the corona pandemic, representatives of the police, marriage and family counseling centers, the local court, the Murnau women's refuge and the " White Rings ”to take action against violence in families and partnerships.

“Many report that domestic violence has increased,” says Steidl.

The situation of acts of violence has been "exacerbated by Corona"

She herself had as many inquiries about acts of violence in families and marriages as usual, but she was regularly updated, for example through newsletters from various helplines and advice centers.

"In general, it can already be stated that the matter has worsened due to Corona," says Steidl.

Due to all the contact restrictions, home working and schooling, conflicts between parents and children as well as between partners are inevitable.

"It happens that partners who were previously not prone to violence suddenly become violent."

Mostly women are still victims of domestic violence

She advises getting help in any case if the situation in the family or partnership threatens to worsen. “There are now many offers of help for women and men,” says Steidl. It is still mostly women who are victims of domestic violence, but it is also increasingly affecting men. It is not just about physical violence, psychological violence is also a major problem. “Domestic violence has many faces,” says Steidl.
