Freising

- The corner is already known for graffiti: between the Freising Agency for Employment and the ice rink you can find the bridge pillar, which is now shining in new colors. The abutment was first artistically designed in 2014 by the visual artist and graffiti sprayer Christian Leitna and the site was thus upgraded. Since then, his handwriting has accompanied passers-by in the direction of the Luitpoldhalle - the work received a lot of positive feedback.

Over the years, however, the graffiti on the bridge pillar did not remain undamaged. The color was fading and there was a lot smeared and talked about the existing artwork. So it was time for a new coat of paint. Graffiti artist Kai Hockenberger's request came at exactly the right time: he approached the youth councilor and asked the committee whether he could redesign the wall on the abutment.

Both the youth city council and the representatives of the city youth welfare organization were enthusiastic: Thus they succeeded again in filling the street art project with a well-known artist. Last week, Kai Hockenberger worked with a friend who is also firmly anchored in the graffiti scene under the bridge near the Luitpoldhalle. Hockenberger is an "old hand" in the scene: at the age of 17, in 1987, he discovered his passion for spraying. And although he embarked on a completely different professional path at the beginning of 2000, the art of graffiti has accompanied the Marzlinger to this day. Last Wednesday, artist Kai Hockenberger, city council members Nico Heitz and Philomena Böhme, city youth worker Daniel Petanic and youth city councilor Michael Weindl met in front of the new work of art.

Philomena Böhme was particularly enthusiastic about the project that Hockenberger had been working on for three days with his graffiti colleague: "It's so diverse, you could probably look at it for hours and discover new details over and over again," said the young city councilor. She also explains to the group why she is a fan of graffiti on bridge piers or underpasses: “Art takes the oppressiveness out of such places when you walk through here.” Kai Hockenberger, known in the scene as “Peso One”, noted that Graffiti is not for everyone: “Some feel overwhelmed by the unique styles,” the artist knows.

City councilor Nico Heitz also thanked the youth councilor and guest of honor Kai Hockenberger on behalf of the city: "The old graffiti was no longer nice, but simply painting the wall gray would not have been an option," said Heitz.

“That's why I'm glad that a fresh project has been created here.” Now everyone involved is hoping that the graffiti will remain undamaged for a long time and that passers-by from Freising will be able to enjoy it for years to come.
