Climate change is also putting the airlines under pressure.

But the golf airline Emirates is not too confused by the climate debate - and is now using the A380 again on short-haul routes.

  • The

    A380

is a fascinating aircraft - but unfortunately it is also relatively expensive to operate.

  • More and more airlines have moved away from the super plane and

    canceled

    their orders

    .

  • Airbus has drawn the consequences.

The last machine rolled off the production line in

    Toulouse

Munich - The Airbus A380 is considered to be one of the most spectacular long-haul aircraft in aviation history.

Depending on the equipment, the double-decker offers space for up to 853 passengers and a range of over 15,000 kilometers.

The controversial four-jet engine is not intended for short distances.

But at Emirates Airlines they have not been deterred by such considerations in recent years.

The world's largest A380 customer started using the super jet on the route from its home airport in Dubai to neighboring Muscat from July 2019.

The four-jet engine took just 40 minutes to jump into the capital of Oman.

That was easily enough for the unofficial title as the shortest A380 connection worldwide.

Emirates discontinued the mini connection in the spring.

But the top spot for the shortest A380 trip, which was highly regarded by many Airbus fans, stayed in the house and went to the Dubai - Amman route.

The flight from the Gulf to the Jordanian capital takes around three hours.

But now the connection Dubai - Amman has lost its title again.

Since June 3rd, Emirates has also been using the A380 on the route from Dubai International Airport to the Emirate of Bahrain.

That is just 480 kilometers of flight distance - and thus 50 kilometers less than the total length of the cables installed on board the Airbus.

Emirates: Airline wants to cope with increasing demand with super planes

As a justification for the type change from the Boeing 777-300ER to the A380, which is quite controversial in the industry, the airline refers to the booking figures.

The larger aircraft will "help to meet the growing demand to and from Bahrain in the summer," said a press release.

According to the flight plan, the short trip across the Persian Gulf with flight number EK 839/840 will now only last 70 minutes instead of the previous 85 minutes in the Triple Seven.

The price for the one-way ticket in economy is the equivalent of 70 euros.

If you want to treat yourself to the business or first experience, you have to reckon with around 404 or 521 euros.

Emirates: Short-haul routes highly controversial because of carbon footprint

Short-haul flights are highly controversial because of their carbon footprint.

It was only in mid-May that the Green Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock caused a sensation with demands for air traffic restrictions.

“In the future, there should no longer be short-haul flights,” Baerbock said in an interview.

In Germany there is definitely sympathy for such restrictions.

According to a survey by the polling institute YouGov at the end of May, just under one in four (24 percent) were in favor of abolishing it.

A good one in three (34 percent) advocated increasing the cost of taxes, for example, in order to make short-haul flights less attractive.

A further quarter of those surveyed (26 percent), on the other hand, rejected any change in short-haul flights.
