Last year, one of the most spectacular construction sites in Bavaria was probably the Tegernseer Hütte.

Now you can stay here again.

However, the landlords do not yet know how many beds they are allowed to occupy.

Kreuth

- A couple of nails, boards and pliers are still lying around.

Michel Ludwig, landlord of the Tegernseer Hütte (Miesbach district), can hardly believe it.

He stands under the roof in one of the two dormitories and strokes the new wooden ceiling.

“All that's missing is the fine-tuning.

The worst is done, ”he says.

A year of construction is behind him and his wife Sylvia.

Where craftsmen sawed and hammered last season, hikers will again roll out their sleeping bags and spend the night starting next weekend.

At last.

Corona in Bavaria: Overnight stays in Tegernseer Hütte possible again - landlord is preparing for a difficult season

How exactly the Ludwigs are allowed to occupy the sleeping camps in the "Adlerhorst", which is exposed at 1650 meters on the ridge between Roßstein and Buchstein, remains to be seen.

“There are new rules for hotels and accommodation providers.

We do not yet know whether the relaxation will also apply to mattress dormitories, ”says Michel Ludwig.

Like many other hut keepers in Bavaria, he is preparing for a difficult season.

At least when it comes to overnight stays.

He very much hopes that a decision will be made this week.

At the moment he still has to put off all callers.

Tegernseer Hütte: Corona rules reduce bed storage to a minimum - Big problem for landlords

Up until now, the rule was: Different households must not be mixed in the bedrooms.

If singles or small families book an overnight stay, the capacity of an entire bed dorm is exhausted.

A big problem for hosts like the Ludwigs: "In the worst case, we can only allocate three of a total of 23 beds."

In addition, the large-scale renovation of the popular hut of the Tegernsee Alpine Club has already gnawed at the capacity: Until 2019, 38 people could stay here.

Now there are two dormitories with ten and eleven places and one with two places.

The roof had to be raised to meet fire protection regulations and to create space for two new emergency exits.

“The renovation was spectacular,” says Michel Ludwig.

Grouse breed on the Buchstein in summer, so helicopters are not allowed to fly.

But without the cubic meters of wood, scaffolding and machines, how do you get lifted to 1,650 meters?

“The workers came on foot.

Otherwise we had to transport everything with the gondola, with which we normally only bring up food and drinks.

The longest parts were 6.50 meters long. "

The mammoth task succeeded.

The renovation devoured 314,000. Everything is finished, except for the little things.

Whoever enters the hut smells the fresh wood and the color.

The dormitory ceiling has been raised.

Skylights let in more light.

On the east side, guests can now access an escape walkway via a dormer.

The west side was given a gable, which can be seen from afar due to the light wood.

30 smoke detectors and fire doors ensure more security.

After all, the hut burned down once in the 1960s due to a lightning strike.

Tegernseer Hütte starts in the summer season: fire protection conversion almost complete

In 2020 the Ludwigs could only manage the terrace because of the construction site.

Then there was the pandemic.

"Even if it wasn't easy to implement the Corona rules in such a small area: It was a good mountain summer," says Michel Ludwig.

His team is also well-rehearsed for this season.

Even if 60 people were waiting on the ridge to get hold of one of the tables on the small terrace.

After the Ludwigs brought the hut out of hibernation a month later than usual, operations started again on Corpus Christi.

Check vaccination records and test results.

Serve beer, stew and red wine cake.

After seven months, Sylvia Ludwig enjoyed taking care of her guests again, despite the crowd.

“It's harder to get the job done,” she says and looks towards Karwendel.

"As long as I can run up, I want to continue." It is the 28th summer of the Ludwigs at the Tegernseer Hütte.
