After the election reform, the next legislative council will increase to 90 seats. The government plans to expand the building of the Fa assembly, adding 4 floors to the top floor of the original site, and 10 additional floors in the open-air garden.

During the expansion period, some councillors may need to rent nearby commercial buildings to set up temporary offices.

It is understood that in order to cope with the number of new members, the interior of the Legislative Council Building also needs to be modified. At the closed-door meeting of the Executive Management Committee held this morning (7th), it was discussed that there were many "rooms" in the Legislative Council and space was allocated for offices. It is not used by members of the building, and the scope of the proposed rezoning includes the attic of the front hall of the Legislative Council, and the "Mock Legislative Council" activity room on the third floor.

In addition, the press conference room used for holding press conferences may also have the opportunity to switch from the current fixed seats to movable tables and chairs so that they can be used for other purposes when necessary.

Some members of the Legislative Council pointed out that during the building's expansion project, the 9th and 10th floors were unavailable due to the impact of the project. Members whose original offices were located on the 9th and 10th floors, as well as newly added members, also need to rent offices in nearby commercial buildings. The commercial building in Admiralty is not very close to the councillors. For example, sometimes the "clock" requires a resolution to be made within 5 minutes. If you are in the office of the commercial building, you cannot return to vote.

It is reported that the Administrative Council has discussed the provision of rooms in various places of the Legislative Council, including the attic of the Legislative Council, some meeting rooms on the second floor, and the "Mock Legislative Council" activity room on the third floor. It is expected that at least 10 rooms can be allocated. It is for members who do not have an office in the building to make appointments for short-term office work, breaks, meetings, etc. The rooms are equipped with computers and other equipment.

It is understood that the Administrative Council has also discussed changing the equipment of the press room, changing the original fixed seats to movable tables and chairs, so that members can reserve the press room for other activities, such as meetings, if necessary.

It is reported that the relevant changes are expected to be carried out between October and December this year, so as to be completed before the new term of the Legislative Council takes office.

Liang Junyan met with reporters last month to explain the preliminary plan.
