More European countries are preparing to welcome American and international visitors, including France, Spain and Ireland.

June is coming and peak travel season is often just around the corner.

But 2021, like 2020, is a bit different.

As global restrictions bring constantly changing rules, CNN Travel is here to help you plan for this summer and beyond with these weekly travel news digests.

Here you can learn about the countries that relax entry restrictions, the attractions that reopen the doors, and the places that closed due to the covid-19 outbreaks.

Destinations reopening in the European Union

Do you want to travel to one of the 27 countries of the European Union (EU) or to other European destinations?

It's a little bit complicated.

The EU has a white list of countries from which non-essential travel to the bloc is approved: these are Israel, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Australia.

But, although the bloc tries to create more universal requirements for tourism, each country retains sovereignty over its borders, so the entry conditions differ from one nation to another, as do the deadlines.

The European Commission introduced a covid-19 digital certificate for travel (open to non-EU citizens), which is already voluntarily used by Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Croatia and Poland.

The digital certificate will be fully applied from July 1.

All foreign tourists can visit Greece without going through a quarantine upon arrival, provided they have a negative PCR test.

The government plans to declare 80 islands safe, including most of the country's main tourist destinations, by the end of June.

France and the traffic light system

France has just introduced a new color-coded "traffic light system" for when it opens to international travelers on June 9.

Those on the "green list" - vaccinated travelers from the European Union, Australia, South Korea, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand and Singapore - will be allowed in without restriction.

Unvaccinated travelers will need to be tested for covid-19.

Vaccinated travelers on the "orange list" - which includes the US and UK - will need to be tested, while unvaccinated travelers will only be allowed in for essential purposes.

Indoor dining will also be reintroduced on June 9, and the national curfew will move to 11 p.m.

Ireland

Ireland, which has had one of the strictest closures in Europe, will reopen to the EU, the UK and the US on July 19.

Non-EU travelers who are not vaccinated will have to arrive with a negative test, and then remain in quarantine until they undergo a second test after arrival.

Irish hotels reopened this week, and indoor stays will resume on July 5.

Slovenia, Spain, the Netherlands and Iceland

Slovenia also reopened to tourism with its own traffic light system and testing requirements, which you can check out here.

Spain will open to vaccinated travelers from outside the EU on June 7, and France is expected to do the same on June 9.

The Netherlands welcomes tourists from "safe countries with low risk of covid-19", while Iceland, a member state of the European Economic Area, opened its borders to vaccinated travelers in April.

Croatia, Cyprus and the United Kingdom

Croatia is also welcoming vaccinated travelers, as well as those who present a negative PCR test or proof that they recovered from COVID-19 in the last 180 days, and no less than 11 days before arrival.

Last month, Cyprus reopened its doors to vaccinated travelers from 65 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.

The UK, which is outside the EU, also updated its travel 'green list' this week.

No new countries were added, but tourist favorite Portugal has gone from green to orange.

This means that traveling there from the UK is against government guidelines and will result in 10 days of self-isolation upon return.

Caribbean, Middle East and Algeria

The news from the Caribbean this week is that Saint Lucia relaxed protocols on the island for vaccinated travelers - including the ability to reserve rental cars and dine at more local restaurants - but Saint Kitts closed, announcing that as of now only Those who are fully vaccinated will be allowed.

In the Middle East and Africa, Algeria began to reopen air transport after a 14-month lockdown, while Abu Dhabi will end the mandatory quarantine for international travelers on July 1, the same day that Phuket will reopen its doors in Thailand

Attractions, activities and accommodation

Another large New York hotel reopened.

The Ritz-Carlton New York Central Park opened its doors on June 2.

The Peninsula Hotel chain opened its doors in the US, and now welcomes guests to its superglamorous New York headquarters, as well as the luxurious rooms at The Peninsula Chicago and The Peninsula Beverly Hills.

Disney

Disneyland's Avengers Campus, a new space in Disney California Adventure Park, opened on Friday, but CNN Travel already had a sneak peek.

Disneyland and California Adventure parks will begin welcoming out-of-state guests on June 15.

A few days later, the first Disney hotel with Marvel characters, Disney's Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel, will open its doors on June 21.

Cruise ships

On Thursday, Venice welcomed the MSC Orchestra, the first cruise ship to arrive in its waters since the pandemic began.

European company Uniworld Boutique River Cruises will resume operations on June 20 with a series of tours of Italy, Portugal and France.

This cruise line gets approval to sail 1:00

Later this month, Celebrity Edge will be the first major cruise ship to sail from the United States in more than a year.

The ship, belonging to the Celebrity Cruises line, has been authorized to set sail from Fort Lauderdale (Florida).

Plan of the week

One of the most spectacular ways to escape the crowds?

A trip to the island of Nuku Hiva, in French Polynesia, one of the most remote places in the world.

It is part of the intact archipelago of the Marquesas Islands and has recently been reopened to travelers, but to get there you have to make an eight and a half hour flight from San Francisco, followed by another four hours.

Make sure you bring lots of snacks.
