(CNN Spanish) -

June 7 has arrived and that means one thing for travelers from around the world who are eager to visit Spain: they can now enter the country - well, as long as they are vaccinated or meet certain health requirements.

On May 20, the European Union agreed to allow the entry of tourists vaccinated against covid-19 who come from countries with low infection rates.

However, each country maintains sovereignty over its borders, and can establish different conditions for entry to its territory.

Here what you should know if you plan to travel to Spain as of June 7.

Who can enter?

Travelers coming from "safe non-EU countries" will not have to face health checks upon arrival in Spain.

On that list are Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Israel, South Korea, Thailand, Rwanda, China, and as of May 24, the United Kingdom and Japan were included.

As of June 7, as La Moncloa explains, “tourists from all countries with which there is not full freedom of movement, including the United States at the moment, will be able to enter Spain, provided they have a certificate of having received the complete regimen of a vaccine authorized by the European Medicines Agency or the World Health Organization ».

In effect, the Official State Gazette of June 4 includes in the list of people who can enter Spain amid the temporary travel restrictions:

advertising

"K) Persons with a vaccination certificate that the Ministry of Health recognizes for this purpose, after verification by the health authorities, as well as accompanying minors to whom the Ministry of Health extends the effects."

How does it work for tourists from member states of the European Union?

"Travelers from safe European territories, those listed in green according to the classification of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), will not have to meet sanitary entry requirements", according to the website of La Moncloa.

Check here the classification of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

Also, keep in mind that all passengers arriving in Spain by air or sea must fill out the Spain Travel Health health control form.

I am vaccinated, is my vaccine among those approved for travel?

"To date, the Commission has granted four conditional marketing authorizations for vaccines developed by BioNTech and Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Janssen Pharmaceutica NV," according to the European Commission.

For its part, the World Health Organization (WHO) has also approved the Chinese-made Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines for emergency use.

These were in addition to vaccines already approved for emergency use from Pfizer / BioNTech, AstraZeneca-SK Bio, Serum Institute of India, Janssen and Moderna.

To enter Spain, you must meet the requirement of a complete vaccination schedule (the Janssen single dose or the two doses of the other vaccines) and that at least 14 days have passed since the last dose.

If I am not vaccinated, can I travel to Spain?

The European authorities have reported that passengers who demonstrate that they have recovered from covid-19 and, in the case of some countries, have a negative PCR test result in the last 48 hours will be able to enter.

If you are not vaccinated in full at least 14 days before traveling, check with your airline to verify the requirements that you must present.

Next, check the validity of the documents to enter Spanish territory.

What documents are valid to enter Spain?

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, this is the validity of the following certificates or documents proving vaccination, recovery and diagnostic tests.

This says on the website of the Consulate of Spain in Lyon, France:

  • Vaccination certificate:

    Valid from 14 days after the complete vaccination schedule, up to 1 year after the vaccination date.

  • Diagnostic Test

    Certificate

    :

    Certificate valid if the sample has been taken in the 48 hours prior to arrival in Spain, for both the NAAT and RAT tests.

  • Recovery Certificate:

    Correspondence with a test between a period not exceeding 180 days after the date of the first positive result of a diagnostic test for active infection (NAAT) and no earlier than the 11th day following the date of that positive result.

  • IMPORTANT: If you violate any range according to the indicated data, you cannot obtain your QR.

This certificate or supporting document (vaccination, diagnostic test, recovery) must be the original, will be written in Spanish, English, French or German and may be presented in paper or electronic format.

Any of these documents will contain, at least, the following information:

  • name and surname of the traveler;

  • date of complete vaccination or sample collection;

  • type of vaccine injected or of the diagnostic test performed;

  • issuing country.

What is the Covid Digital Certificate?

The European Commission, the Council and the European Parliament agreed last week on the Covid Digital Certificate.

At the end of May, the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, presented the Digital Certificate of the European Union at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur), with which tourism activity would resume this summer.

"With the Digital Certificate, Spain will safely resume all its economic activities and we will achieve mobility within the European Union this same summer," said Sánchez.

  • The digital certificate of covid-19 of the European Union will be open to international travelers from non-EU countries

How does it work?

"By means of a QR code, it will provide information on whether the person traveling is vaccinated, has had the disease or has a negative PCR result," explains the La Moncloa page.

The Autonomous Communities of Spain will be in charge of issuing, sealing and delivering the certificates in electronic or paper format.

The certificate is free.

The EU digital COVID Certificate will officially enter into force on July 1, but some European Union countries began its use in a pilot test on June 7.

Here you can see which countries are already effectively connected with the digital COVID Certificate, which - such as Spain - are technically ready to use it and which are in the technical testing phases.

What is the situation of covid-19 in Spain?

According to data from the European Commission updated on June 4, 325.8 million doses have been supplied in the European Union and 260.2 million doses have been administered.

48% of the adult population in the EU have received at least one dose of covid-19 vaccines.

Spain has registered almost 3.7 million cases and more than 80,100 deaths from covid-19, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

21.9% of the Spanish population is fully vaccinated and 18.8% partially vaccinated, according to data compiled by CNN.
