The MTR announced earlier that the Tuen Ma Line will be fully opened to traffic on June 27, and the new platform of Hung Hom Station will be opened on June 20. By then, the transfer arrangements between East Rail Line and West Rail Line will be changed. It is to walk to the opposite platform.
Huang Kunwei, the chief operating officer of the MTR, said that it takes about 3 minutes to walk between the new and the old platforms. The MTR will post signs on this to instruct passengers on how to travel between the new and old platforms.
In addition, the existing West Rail Line at Hung Hom Station will no longer be used by the MTR. Therefore, pedestrian crossings across the platform will be provided to facilitate passengers. Initially, there will be three, and then five will be added later.
Hung Hom Station was revealed in 2018 that there was a scandal of steel bars being cut short. Huang Kunwei stated that the platform has been approved by law and is structurally safe.
However, the expert consultant mentioned before that the MTR has yet to finalize detailed recommendations on water seepage, rust problems, long-term monitoring and additional quality assurance work.
