XXL vaccination campaign: 150 educators were absent from the second vaccination without excuse

2400 teachers and educators were vaccinated in March as part of an XXL campaign.

The second part followed on Saturday - with far fewer teachers.

Freising

- It was part two of the large-scale vaccination campaign by BRK and Johannitern: On Saturday, the primary school teachers and kindergarten staff in the "Gute Änger" secondary school in Freising received their second prick. While 2400 people were given a vaccination in March, it was around 900 fewer when they met again on Saturday. Nevertheless, according to those responsible, the second vaccination was a great success - and the necessary course for normality in work and life.

As in March, the organization of the BRK and Johanniter was precisely planned this time.

In plain language: In front of the school, there were at most small groups instead of long queues - and the passage of those willing to be vaccinated also worked like clockwork.

At twelve reception desks, the pedagogical staff was quickly provided with the necessary documents, with which they were then sent on to the respective vaccination doctor without any major delays.

And there, too, the door was already open for clarifications and questions and the eagerly awaited second stab.

60 volunteers master large-scale operations

Around 60 employees of the two aid organizations had already been on duty since 7 a.m. to get this strategic achievement off the ground. At half time, BRK district manager Albert Söhl, who was the “girl for everything” that day, was extremely satisfied. According to Söhl, it won't be interesting until the end. Because: During the serial vaccination on Saturday, only "Moderna" was vaccinated - and this vaccine has to be thawed. Already between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., however, it became apparent that some orders would probably not appear - for unknown reasons. Perhaps, so Söhl speculated, they are on vacation, or it is because of the nice weather - or they just don't want a moderna.

For example, an educator from Eching, who contacted the FT in advance, did not want to be vaccinated with Moderna.

She complains: The preliminary information on serial vaccination gave the wrong impression that a choice between Biontech and Moderna would be possible - and that there was still too little information about Moderna.

Since a free selection procedure would not have been the case, she would have left school in Lerchenfeld without a second vaccination.

Bardenheuer: Freising has everything under control

However, neither Söhl nor the medical doctor Dr. Mark Bardenheuer understand. Biontech and Moderna, according to Bardenheuer, are mRNA vaccines - both are equally effective and tolerable. His experience in the improvised doctor's room: “The people are very, very grateful to finally get the second vaccination.” Bardenheuer was also enthusiastic about the great commitment of the medical staff, without which it would not work - as was the case with the doctors in Pension that became active again during the Corona crisis. In general, Freising has the current situation under control in an exemplary manner and is "ahead" in many things. Bardenheuer was able to vaccinate around 20 Moderna cans per hour, and luckily he did not experience any severe reactions on Saturday either.Söhl also confirmed the good tolerability, and that only two or three freshly vaccinated people had a slight decrease in their circulation - but that, according to Söhl, was probably due to the humid weather.

Hardly any fears of vaccination reactions

The mood captured on site also showed that people are happy to finally get their second dose. In the monitoring room, the conversations between the up to 50 freshly vaccinated waiting people were colored hopefully. Thomas Kronthaler, caretaker at the primary school in Vötting, was happy that he finally had full vaccination protection. Due to the corona, he had little contact with the children, and now he is more comfortable. On the other hand, Sarah Mooser from the BRK millipedes nursery in Neufahrn encounters a high risk of infection every day when she deals with children from one to three years of age. The children just can't wear masks, so the educational staff is often very close to a possible infection process and is now well protected against it with the second vaccination. After the first dose of AstraZeneca, she had no symptoms whatsoever, so she is not afraid of any vaccine reactions this time either.

On the other hand, Nicole Mörwald and Sabine Huber from the Catholic Children's Home St. Johannes in Mauern were sick for two days with a fever after the first spade - but that in no way stopped them from wanting to get full vaccination protection.

Both are now looking forward to a bit of normality and the simple things that were not possible for a long time - such as going to concerts.

25 cans had to be inoculated internally

Söhl, on the other hand, was happy at 9 p.m. that they “got everything going”.

The final calculation: Of the 2400 first vaccinated, 1660 were scheduled for the second dose on Saturday.

According to Söhl, the difference was probably vaccinated by family doctors, among others - many had canceled early enough.

Of these first vaccinated people then appeared in secondary school in 1510.

However, around 150 educators left the BRK and Johanniter team in the rain - without giving any reason.

25 cans that would otherwise have been thawed out, for example, were inoculated to employees of the BRK, the still frozen cans go back to the vaccination center, explained Söhl.
