Animal rights activists have saved 28 fawns from a meadow in Gunzenhausen from mowing.

To do this, they made use of the latest technology.

Gunzenhausen - In Gunzenhausen, more precisely in the Unterhambach district (about 60 kilometers from Nuremberg *), the fawn aid Franken saved 28 fawns from certain death.

The helpers did this with a thermal imaging camera, which they used to track down the little ones on a farmer's mowing area.

As usual, deer mothers leave their babies in the meadows - they then wait patiently in the grass until they come back.

But that is exactly what is particularly dangerous for the fawns.

When the farmers harvest their meadows with the large combine harvester, they often do not notice the little ones, as they usually duck down when there is danger and are therefore not visible in the tall grass.

28 fawns rescued from meadow: animal rights activists lifted them out of the grass with gloves

The fawn aid Franconia expected a particularly large number of young animals in the fields this year due to the late mowing due to the weather, as

.

After the thermal imaging camera had tracked down the fawns, the helpers lifted them out of the meadow with gloves and some grass and placed them in a large plastic tub.

The farmers then mowed their areas and the helpers then brought the little ones back to the meadow.

The fawn help was on site until the evening hours to see whether the deer mothers would pick up their children.

Luckily they all did that.

During a rescue operation: Animal rights activists also find numerous dead fawns

In all the joy of the successful rescue operation, the helpers unfortunately also discovered some dead fawns.

The fawn aid's assumption is that this goes back to free-roaming dogs who chase the young animals around and thus chase them to death.

That is why the helpers have a big request to the dog owners: They should take their animals on leashes from May to July.

Just recently, just such a case happened in the Fürth * forest, when several dogs probably chased two deer to death.
